I somehow recall that either Popular Hot Rodding or Hot Rod Magazine did a story on the car and mentioned that little tidbit. There were some major changes for Two Lane Blacktop, like the straight axle and the flip top front end being added and the rear fenders being cut and radiused to fit the large slicks. That's probably when the big block was installed, too. I have to wonder if that car isn't still in the studio's garage waiting to be reincarnated for another movie role. |

View Quote Because it wasn't a real Testarossa. It was a re-bodied Pantera (351ci Ford Cleavland V8 all souped up for the show. I don't remember all about the build other than it had one of those cube-looking Predator carbs) I guess it's in keeping with the theme because the Daytona that preceded it was a re-bodied 'Vette. |

That is true and apparently the car was rolled in American Grafitti and was going to be scrapped but there were actually 3 55s in TLB and one of them was outfitted to be a camera/and interior shots car. One for exterior shots and one for stunts. It was the stunt car that got rolled in American Graffiti and was the only one in the movie. That one got scrapped but the other 2 cars got restored and the guy that did the camera car did it to the TLB specs in 2006 and describes it with photos here. Two Lane Blacktop 55 Restoration |

Mine was a 1978, which has different taillights and the Cadillac logo moved off the grille and became a separate emblem above the grille. It's been quite a while since I saw a Caddy of those model years (77 thru 79) actually driving on the road. They have become scarce. I'd choose: |
