Neat, but I'll stick to my 14.5" 6.8SPC AR, with a Vortex 2-7x.

That's the strangest looking Marlin .30-30 I've ever seen.  What model is it?

It'll work.

I'm thinking my Ruger American 243 with a 3-9x40 Nikon scope is about perfect for my deer hunting uses.

I reject your suggestion.

I'll stick with my 30-06 bolt action and kill anything in north america at ranges extending past my own skill set.

I've always liked the look of Mannlicher stocks.  Ruger has/had a 10/22 with a Mannlicher stock.  I wanted to get one in stainless and put a decent stainless scope on it.  Sharp looking setup

A guy from PA should know that a proper deer rifle is a pump action Remington 3006 with a low quality 3x9 mounted in those high rise "see through" scope mounts.

For me it was a 6mm Remington, sadly the .243 beat it out in that caliber.

There are far superior calibers.

25-06, .270, .308, 30-06, 30/30, .300 win mag, .300 weatherby

While CZ makes a nice firearm… others could be considered a well.

Browning A bolt, Browning X bolt, Steyr Prohunter, Winchester, Ruger, Marlin… I could go on, but is that really necessary?

The basic train of thought is that if it's not a 760 or 7600 in .30-06 that you can't kill deer. People scoffed at my measly .243Win and claimed it's a kids round for starting off. In over 20 deer I've taken with that rifle none walked further than 30 yds before they were DRT.

Many folks are probably moving on since the 7600 has gotten a bit pricey.

Any other differences besides the stock?

One of those is on my short list.  I have a standard model and it's great, but it has some parts made of plastic that were metal on the older model my father has.

I think that caliber makes a lot of sense for someone who does not reload.   Cheap ammo is available for a lot of practice.   The more practice you get, the more accurate you should be.

The rifle is also perfectly sized for the cartridge and is designed to handle the cheaper steel cased ammo.   Good hunting ammo made in the USA is available.

My BAR Mk II .30-06 laughs at this post as well as all the AR10 .308 variants as well.

Nice rifle but the caliber choice is full of derp given the .243, .308, .260, etc.

There would come a time that you would want to 2-7x or 2.5-8x in my case.   And a bit more trajectory.

Had you said "woods gun for east of the Mississippi", you would have been a bit closer to the target.

As I stated, nice rifle though.

Don't know about WI but of the dozens of deer I've taken there (PA) were all from 3-450 yds. Average was 50-75yds. If you want to talk about long range hunting then swing on out here where 1200 yds is sometimes necessary due to terrain. In those instances there's this guy in .338 LM.

Different tools for different jobs. This is a utilitarian rifle that handles most of the deer hunting I've encountered in the east. Feel free to use what you wish. I have dozens of others to take out of the safe but I set this one up to handle all east coast hunting. YMMV.

Most deer are taken within a 100 yards.  Pretty much everything within 200.  Most hunters couldn't reliably kill a deer at 300+ yards with a MOAB.  If you can and hunt in more open areas you adjust accordingly.
