Cold pack raw, add some water and a bouillon cube or whatever seasoning you like, and use a pressure canner. The canning process will cook it and then yes, you could eat from the can, or add it to anything that calls for cooked meat. Throw it on a sandwich, stroganoff, in stew, chili, fajitas… whatever and it’s ready to go and super tender |

Awesome thread!
I didn't get to hunt this year because I snapped my Achilles tendon in October. Luckily, I shot 4 deer last year so I'm not out of meat yet. Went freezer diving today and pulled out a bunch of ven shanks. A lot of guys either scrap them or throw them in the grind pile, but they're one of my absolute favorite cuts. Browned, then braised them in a dutch oven (along with a bunch of other stuff) for several hours until they were falling apart. Buttery and delicious. Minimal chewing required. Made a sauce/gravy from the braising liquid, and served with roasted carrots and mashed reds. Attached File Try it. You won't regret it! |

I had a good season. There’s so much poaching that goes on around me that anytime you get a decent buck it’s something to be proud of. I missed this guy during bow season. He came back during muzzleloader.

Shot a nice doe yesterday morning. Me and the boy went out in the afternoon and he shot another nice doe that was apparently being followed by a monster, atleast 180. I grabbed the gun from him but it was jammed, fucking Bear Creek strikes again. Same thing happened last year with a monster so I ordered specific mags this year but never tried them out. The thing is a tack driver so I’m gonna try to get them to fix it after the seasons up. Love me some 450 bushmaster in Iowa.

I usually put it in a small pot with some BBQ sauce and heat it up. Works with a bun or tortilla or chips. |

Anyone want a pair of Scentlok XL gloves? I needed them in a pinch and they're too big, worn once, never sweat in, basically brand new.
I'm doing this partially because it is the holidays and I know even the smallest things can sometimes make a big impact; please don't ask for these if you don't need them. https://www.scentlok.com/lightweight-shooters-hunting-glove First 'I'll take it' gets em. |

Quoted: Nice. How do you cook them? (Dad liked the one I took last Thanksgiving but we agreed they're a pain to skin.) View Quote Squirrel skin and wild turkey legs are the toughest stuff in the world. It's a pity they can't build tires from them. (In all seriousness my grandpa's grandpa used to make shoelaces from squirrel hide) So, when we have younger, immature squirrels, we'll pan-fry them. Older ones get turned into some sort of stew or dumplings (boil squirrel, remove meat from bone, substitute for your favorite chicken&dumpling recipe). My kids LOVE squirrel stew/dumplings/soup. Somewhere I have a video of them begging me to kill more squirrels because the stew was so good. It was really just sort of a stewed squirrel and rice soup we threw together. At the moment I have one younger squirrel and five very old/tough ones in the freezer. Looks like stew will be on the menu soon. |
