About 5 or 6 years. Then, I get a $99 cheap phone off Amazon. It does everything it want it to do.

I'm going on 3 years. I just got the battery replaced and about to need a replacement screen.
My 5s is 4 and a half years old now and my 3gs was around 4 years before it would randomly shut off when using safari.

Still using a Samsung Galaxy s6 that i bought a little over 4 years ago. Still works great but will probably upgrade soon
I have my first smartphone still, iphone6. It is truly an incredible device, it gets used every single day for hours and it has only had one battery replacement. I will absolutely buy another iphone when I need one.

Think I went from a 4 to a 6s and it’s working fine still. Skip the 11 iteration.

Looks like I'm the flyer in this grouping.
I buy the latest iPhone every year on or near the release date ever since 2009. I just bought the 11 Pro Max and sold my 1year old Xr for $650 on Craigslist in one day |

12 months for the wife and I both.
We are on the annual upgrade plan. I rather like it. |

My wife gets the itch for a new iPhone about every two years. Historically we have bought a decently equipped model unlocked phone from the Apple Store, with phone, applecare plan, and tax, it comes out to $950-$1000. That comes out to over $40 a month if you kept it two years. Seems like a lot to me. What do you guys do? View Quote |

Had an iPhone 6 for about a year before the touchscreen stopped working. Repairs were so expensive (new main board req'd) that I bought a 7. I really think Apple should have fixed those for free, even after the warranty. It was a very common manufacturing flaw that only showed up after several months of use.

Man this thread makes me miss my yearly Sprint upgrades because of my silver account. Now I will go be poor somewhere else I have a Galaxy S8 and am enjoying not paying a monthly phone payment. I do like the transparency of having the payment itemized on your bill.
I've had mine 2 and a half years, and it's working fine.
I'd say 3-4 years. Also, buying phone outright is the way to go. If you need to pay for it monthly, you can't afford it. |

Some of you guys have top tier rifle set ups that do not get used nearly as often as your phone, but have phones from 5 yrs ago. Not hating, just think it is funny. I am on a 2 yr rotation. Note 9 right now View Quote Do that with a phone. |

Since ~2007 I’ve had one blackberry, a 4S, a 6, then 6s+ (the 6 crapped out early and I realized the bigger screen was the way to go). The 6s+ is on its second battery.
I keep them cased and take care about cleaning the charging ports. Really extends their life. I like my 6s+ so much I’m debating buying a 6s+ for “hot standby” when this one dies. I don’t want to lose my headphone jack 4 phones in 12 years. |

2ish years.
I kept my 6S+ (That I bought refurbed, from Apple), up until recently- where I took advantage of all the people dumping their X’s- in favor of 11’s. Win/Win. |
Usually every 3 years or so I buy whatever Samsung is two generations back, used. Bought an S7 last year, and will likely keep it a few more years. Not a big app person, I only use a phone in a pinch when I don't have a laptop nearby.

When my phone becomes unusable I get a new one. I usually replace an aging model that was on clearance when I got it with whatever the newest aging model on clearance is.
I am on a Iphone 6 and is still able to get updates. A new one will offer all most no advantage as the technology is at a peak for the time. Paid $200 used. Go wast your money somewhere else.
I get a new one when the old one quits.
Hint. Facebook kills phones, because people look at it more than we look at GD. |
I keep them until they die or get broken. Then I buy one generation back from today’s new hotness in an Android phone. Currently with a Motorola.
I never understood the reasoning behind the phone upgrade merry-go-round. |

Wife got an iphone6 and i got a samsung galaxy s6 about 4 years ago. Wife juat upgraded to an Xr, i am still on my s6. I have had 4 cell phones since 2006, so averaging a little over 3 years. All of them were over 4 except my motorola droid 2...it sucked and i only made it 2 years.

i keep them till they are no longer usable.
I hate buying phones almost as much as paying taxes. |

I seem to be upgrading about once a year with phones that are 1-2 years old on Swappa.
Although, about a month ago I bought a Pixel 3a that I'm hoping will last me the next 3 years. I just want the latest software updates. All the hardware stuff seems to be minor improvements and isnt worth the premium that companies are charging. |
Still rocking a galaxy 5 lol
No need for anything fancy. When this one breaks I'll get the next freebee |
Going on 3 years now. Keep on using it until it doesn’t work and repair is cost prohibitive.
I’ve got an iPhone X
I had an iPhone 5s before this. This thing should last at least 5 more years and I don’t plan to upgrade unless this upcoming 5g revolutionizes things. |

I have only had a iPhone 2 and a new XR so I get 8 yrs out of them based on a sample of 2 I could have gotten 8 years out of one phone if I got one too. Cost more than I make in a year tho. Ceramic. |

I'm still rocking an iPhone 7+, and I don't see any reason to change that. I was tickled pink with it when it was new, and it still does everything they promised it would 3 years later.
I'll replace it when it can no longer get updates, or when the battery finally takes a shit. |
I'm still using my first smart phone, an iPhone 4s.Still does everything I need it to.

I keep it until it drops to 25% battery as soon as I unplug it.
We both have an iPhone 6. Put new batteries in both of them a couple of months back. Don't see us getting new phones any time remotely soon.
I'm two years in on my Sony and love it.
I'll keep it till it dies. Unfortunately it is increasingly difficult to find a small screen phone. This one is 4.7" and I absolutely do not want anything bigger. Eta: I think I paid about $225. I always buy unlocked. |
Until it dies, or until someone I know upgrades and sells me their old phone cheap.....I'm still rocking a Galaxy S5.
