Been in the Houston area since 1971. This is one of the worst flooding events we've seen. How would you say it compares to the floods from last year? This doesn't compare to TS Allison. It's similar to Memorial Day floods last year. This is far worse than Memorial Day last year. This is like nearly as much rain as Memorial Day but more widespread. |

I'm north of Houston. My house got hammered for many hours last night - rain gauge outside said 8 inches but I'd probably go with 5-6 realistically and probably another inch or two since I went to work. Typical flooded areas on the way to work so had to take the long way around.
Usually rains like this once every 4-5 years and makes me remember to fix the drainage on the property. Fortunately the house and shop haven't flooded but the water did get up on the patio about an inch or so. Need to rip out a few feet of lawn in front of the house and make better drainage and a flower bed out of it. The grass area just keeps gaining in height. |

Landed in Houston, hotel on Sam Houston Parkway...still trying to get someone who speaks English to help out with trying to stay. Hate these turd world call centers.

The UT campus was underwater. That's in Austin. My favorite restaurant in Wimberly was swept down the river. Just stop. |

Im just west of Cypress, and we got hammered with rain. Luckily no water in the house, but it was 2" from coming in the front door. We are on a septic system, which is full of rain water now so we can't use the bathroom, do dishes, shower, etc until the water goes down. I had fish swimming in my back yard this morning.

Tomorrow, I planned to drive to LaPorte and see the San Jacinto battlefield and monument. I think I'll postpone that part of the trip and head to Waco and Austin.

Your neighborhood isn't all of Houston. I'm sorry you were impacted, but today wasn't a worse storm for the area. This picture is the Memorial Day Flood in Houston. The bayous crested higher then than they crested today. We got more rain than we got today. The same system (Memorial Day) caused catastrophic flooding in areas like Austin and New Braunfels. Your position that today's storm Impacted a larger area is ludicrous. To compare it to Allison doesn't even warrant discussion. https://tribkiah.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/screen-shot-2015-05-26-at-10-43-28-am.png View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted:

So for Houston, the rainfall totals from today are wider spread than Memorial Day. Nobody is saying Memorial Day wasn't a huge event elsewhere. |

Allison was huge. We got over twenty inches here in S Central La. Roads were under five feet of water that I've never seen flood. I had to get to work (hospital) and I had to detour around all the mess. What normally took thirty minutes took two hours. And we got off easy compared to Houston. Most rain I've ever experienced.

One thing's for sure. If you're a homeowner in this area and you don't have flood insurance, you need to rethink your priorities.

I lived on Braes Bayou from 1980 until 1996. It never flooded until a couple of years ago. My childhood house was flooded and remodeled. I saw it was worth 500k last week. Now flooded again. I bet you can buy it cheap now.

Lots of flooding all around, but since I live close to work I went in as always. Of my particular division, only two other people made in (out of 17).
I need to live farther away from work. ETA drove in from San Antonio last night, and the last hour of that (from Columbus on in) was no fun either. Got down to 35 mph on I-10 in some places. |

my Grandma lives in Humble and my Aunt lives in Livingston, neither had much flooding, no water in the houses.
