Quoted: I always wondered why Hamilton Burger (and Lt Tragg) weren't fired. Seems like they lost every case against Perry. Those guys knew how to party. Raymond Burr was a flaming homosexual, and the guy that played Hamilton Burger was arrested for participating in some wild nude parties. View Quote View All Quotes View All Quotes Quoted: Quoted: I'll go first. Det. Lt. Arthur Tragg was the ultimate cop. Sarcastic, contemptuous of lawyers, self-confident, slightly disheveled, and quick-witted. Of course, he was Hamilton Burger's right hand man on Perry Mason......the once from the 50s and 60s. TV cops are like everything on TV, a figment of some Hollywood bundle of sticks' imagination.

Reed and Malloy for city patrol cops.
Joe Friday and Bill Gannon for detectives, although Friday's lack of interpersonal silks would limit him in real life. Marshall Dillon for the best rural cop. Can do the small town political BS but isn't afraid to enforce the law when needed. |

Some of y'all are old...some black and white series in there. Here are my nominations, picking strictly "cop" characters, e.g. they carried a badge.
1. Andy Sipowicz 2. Frank? Colombo 3. Sgt Joe Friday 4. Jane Rizzoli 5. Leroy Gibbs Fun fact, Steven Bochco who produced NYPD Blue wrote, and IIRC directed many episodes of Colombo... Cop-ish honorable mentions: 1. Adrian Monk 2. Jack Bauer |

I was in the 3rd Grade at the time, but when the show came on I was allowed to stay up until the show was over. It was fun trying to figure out who the killer was. Failed To Load Title |

Of course, he was Hamilton Burger's right hand man on Perry Mason......the once from the 50s and 60s. Your turn. When you read this thread you will be reminded about how much better TV cops shows used to be even for all the cheeziness and sometimes poor acting. But there was neither wokeness nor pandering. It was good guys vs bad guys. And the good guys were always going to ultimately be smarter. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/333347/Tragg_jpeg-1959370.JPG View Quote Tragg and Burger were the worst duo on television. They literally prosecuted innocent people every week. Best cops were Reed and Malloy from Adam 12. |
