Does anyone else thing the castaways were nuts to want to be rescued? |
|

They didn't really want to be rescued.
I mean, they can make a radio out of a coconut but can't patch a boat? C'mon man |
|

With both Ginger and Mary Ann on that island, I sure won't want to be rescued.

Fun fact:
Jonas Grumby and Roy Hinkley were the Skipper and Professor's real names. |

Quoted: Does anyone else thing the castaways were nuts to want to be rescued? View Quote When I was young I thought so. But then I realized that, ok, you're on an island away from the craziness of the world. Great! You are also isolated from most of the good. If you want a family, or are interested in anything that isn't day to day survival then you are fucked. A dead-end life is nothing to aspire to. Also it isn't a good example because being a sitcom they weren't showing even a fraction of the horror that is primitive life. |

View Quote Gilligan should have taken the others out except Ginger and Mary Ann , and stayed stuck with the Howells money and Ginger and Mary Ann. |

I enjoyed it, FWIW. With the recent passing of Dawn Wells, only Tina Louise who played Ginger Grant is still alive. According to Bob Denver's book, "Beyond Gillian's Island," Sherwood Schwartz(the producer of the show) lied to Tina Louise as that she would be the main star of the show to get her to sign on to the show; and so she bought out her contract on a project that she was working on to be there. Tina Louise never recovered from that debacle and today she is very bitter about that incident which is probably why she never appeared on any of the reunion shows. |

Bob Denver had an interesting life after Gilligan's Island according to his bio. His wife says people still knock on her door and claim to be huge fans of 'John' Denver.

It was a silly show, but there are very few episodes I didn't like. It would be hard to pick a favorite. I guess since I grew up watching it in syndication in the afternoons after school, it's strange to me to think of it originally being a prime time TV show.

C'mon man View Quote First couple of episodes addressed that issue - IIRC, they didn't have nails to re-attach the planks, so Gilligan whipped up some coconut glue. Of course, on launch day it turns out that Gilligan 's glue sucks, and the whole boat comes unglued and washes out to sea. |

Not common knowledge but the Professor actually invented the Fleshlight while on the island.

I liked to watch Dobies Gillis. Correction on the name, he was Maynard G Krebs. Great show. We actually had a coffee house for beatnicks here in Flint MI, before the hippies became the thing. It was called the “Sippin’ Lizard”. I was to young to go, but my brother used to make the scene.

I always thought Gilligan and the skipper were a little too close as in butt buddies.
Maryanne and ginger had to have been doing the brillo on brillo. |
