[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Geissele super duty meltdown autopsy now with HBAR and URGI NEW GFR 6 arc at 1,000 yds video! (Page 2 of 7)

I remember watching that when I came out and also saw how the barrel drooped a bit. Those guys got it beyond hot. They did mention having a barrel rupture before in testing (not a G, I think it was a DD.) my first range session with my Geissele DDC 16 saw an entire case of ammo at the Esstac range. The suppressor was smoking. The barrel was smoking. And the gun kept chugging along. It was absolutely filthy. The difference was mine was spaced out over about two hours. Bill got a customer for life after I saw how it took that abuse. Bill and Chris are great guys and have continued to support Cola, and make the best rifles available. After seeing how they handled the idjit that put a 300bo through a G$ rifle shows they also know customer service. |

Quoted: Barrel drooped before the gas tube failed. ![]() And yet… it didn’t rupture and kept firing till the gas tube failed. Does make me wonder things like the JP heat sync and some thermal paste would change the results. Hmmmmmm. I need a case of ammo. And another G rifle upper. Shit. Let’s make this happen. I have the leather gloves and a plate carrier for safety reasons. |

Quoted: Should make provisions in the upper handguard for support of the gas tube. Slots or holes drilled across the forend, a few custom bolts with a cradle to support the tube. Can't droop. |

So having seen the video Geissele did, I noticed a couple things about their barrels that have me scratching my noggin. First, it seems like the gas block was indexed to the barrel similarly to what Centurion Arms does. I'd also like to see the before and after with a bore-scope, and pin-gauging the port erosion to see how much difference there is. |

Quoted: Recently, a YouTuber goldenwebb did a meltdown test of a super duty. It did the best out of all the ARs they’ve done this “test” to. Fired almost twice as many rounds as the KAC could handle. Video can be found here: Apparently, Geissele asked for the upper back so they could to an autopsy on it. They take an in depth look at what failed and why, and came up with an interesting challenge at the end of the video. Video can be found here: I found it really interesting. Figured some of you on here would as well. Actually the Radian Model 1 beat it out. 1055. rounds ETA ![]() Radian Mod 1 14.5” Meltdown Video |

I seen this video a while back and was pretty impressed. Makes me glad I invested in 4 Geissele rifles as my go to rifles. Two 16” superduty’s, a 10.3” superduty SBR and a 10.3” URGI SBR. I recently got to shoot my 10.3” UGRI upper with suppressor on my sot’s full auto lower for a couple hundred continues rnds, it shot smooth as butter and was really impressed. Overall all my Geissele rifles have impressed me with how they perform and are very accurate. One of my 16” with my 77 grn SMK hand loads shoots sub MOA, works for me. As mentioned in the second video, the BCG’s just wipe clean and so far still look like the day I got them. |

Quoted: A mil spec gas tube will last plenty long in any extreme situation you find yourself in. Quoted: Quoted: Not to sound argumentative - I don’t mean it that way at all - but since people keep talking about he gas tube being the weak point, I just was curious if beefing that up would help it last longer in extreme situations. A mil spec gas tube will last plenty long in any extreme situation you find yourself in. Of course… I’m simply addressing the unaddressed discussion point of the gas tube being the “weak” spot. If they’d call it the “safety tube” I’d never have posted in the thread.

Quoted: Actually the Radian Model 1 beat it out. 1055. rounds ETA Video Radian like Geissele was only a gas tube failure, both performed well and the gas tube could have failed sooner or later in either one. I’m wondering if the 14.5” vs 16” barrel makes a difference. Do they both use a standard gas tube as far as material goes? I know the Geissele gas tube is a little longer than mid length vs standard mid length. |

So are we all in agreement that we need to spend $87 on our gas tubes now….V7 Master Race Poors Be Damned I wonder how a rifle would do with the V7 |

Quoted: Should make provisions in the upper handguard for support of the gas tube. Slots or holes drilled across the forend, a few custom bolts with a cradle to support the tube. Can't droop. Since the gas tube is the cheap fuse part, you could just make a heavier one, or you can go to better materials (i.e. inconel). You just don't want to remove the safety factor of the gas tube entirely. Admittedly, a torch isn't exactly real world, since you have excess oxygen in the torch flame: ![]() Melting 3 types of AR-15 gas tubes; Stainless, Nitride and Inconel |

I’m not here to argue. I see now that the gas tube is an intentional failpoint so it’s pointless for us to discuss. Edit: lol and now Geissele does a heavy duty gas tube to address this exact thing…

Although they said the gas tube looked straight, I wonder if it changed dimensionally enough to interfer with the BCG going completely into battery? Most anything else I can think of would have shown up in their visual inspection. |

I wonder if they went with an inconel (sp?) has tube? |

Quoted: G did good! I’d still rather carry a 6720 all day than ANY heavy barreled 10 pound gun. As others have said, I’m not sure of any real life application where an AR failed in combat from prolonged full auto. It’s a fun thought experiment, but for me, I just need it to go bang reliably. I’ll take 300 rounds, as long as it goes bang next 300 rounds. @wesr228 The original meltdown was done on a standard super duty. Not an HBAR. The super duty has a relatively light barrel.
