Used to be a place in Pomona, CA many years ago. Bartender poured me a stein of beer and said if I could drink it one-handed it was on the house. I couldn't even lift it off the bar! Thinking it was magnetized to the bar, he laughed and said no...it just weighted 17 pounds. Turns out the bottom half is full of lead! LOL!
I bought the stein from him for 20 bucks or so and still have it. |

When I lived in Indianapolis over 20 years ago, the Cafe Heidelberg was the place to go for Germans. I guess that they have changed the name now to the Heidelberg Haus. Saturday morning breakfast was filled with local German speakers. It sounded like heaven to me.
The pastries used to be to die for. Linky here |

I took my wife there on our first date. We've been going there on average 2 times a month over the last 25+ years. |

Walburg German Restaurant is a close second. |

There’s a short list of things I’ll miss about New York, but Zum Stammtisch is one of them. For an area that’s often compared to the Alps, The northern Rockies have sadly few German restaurants as far as I’ve seen. |

The Block House, just off the end of the Königsallee in Dusseldorf. Not the most expensive or lavish steak house in the city, but excellent flavor and a local favorite.

Quoted: Suppenkuche in San Francisco. I think it's my favorite restaurant, period. It's really small, so you have to share tables with other diners, which sounds not great, but it has always been a fun good experience. The food's great and it's relatively cheap for fine dining. View Quote Really good food. Bench type seating. I had pork and a a few Schneider weissen |
