Don't we all?

Is anyone over the age of 40 not different from their 18 year old self?
View Quote

Very few.

But going to school with, or otherwise associating with, a future ARFCOMer in your youth, seems to be pretty much the kiss-of- death to happiness/success later in life. Odd.

My husband and I grew up together as children.  I’m six years older.
By the time he was four, he was telling anyone who would listen that we’d be getting married as soon as he could get a job and support us. Life has many twistings and turnings and we went our separate ways, finally marrying decades later.

But life also has a way of compensating: my looks and his eyesight faded together, and now he’s where he always wanted to be and I’m where I always belonged.  Life is good.

Of my HS graduation class, nearly 25% are dead and most of the rest are unrecognizable.

One of the living is the ex Mrs Goldstein. She was cute once. Now she is fat.

Another girl I dated turned into a fat, crystal worshipping cat rancher.

I had a psychology teacher in high school that believed people's personalities were set by age 15 or so - unfortunately, he never explained why he thought that was the case.

After high school she went off and joined the Army, I didn't hear from her in years. Got a FB friend request from her. Didn't recognize her at all. She didn't just grow into her looks, she morphed into a 10/10 supermodel.

She also became an FBI agent. I guess the X Files obsession never wore off.

You could say that.

I had a good friend that decided to stop talking to me because I told him his GF or I guess "fiancee" was cheating on him. She has been friends with my wife and told her the details and because she's a good person she told me so I could warn him. I did and somehow he got mad at me, even with the evidence on the whores phone for him to see.

So we stopped talking. Whatever life goes on.

He was a cool dude, into guns and was a great mechanic.

I see the whore he married as a "person you may know". She's now a member of the nonbinary or whatever community, identifies as queen etc. And a proud member of Antifa....

So I look him up. A quick Google search lead me to reddit. Sure enough it's my buddy. Asking what the guys in the bi/gender fluid community prefer panty wise. Bitching because he has to hide his wearing of thongs from his coworkers in the garage.

Yep. Never saw that coming.

A little over 20 years ago before I met my wife I ran into one of the hot girls from school who I had about half of my classes with. In school she wouldn't even acknowledge me when I spoke to her. There she was in Walmart with her hair all rat nested up on one side and about 100 pounds heavier than she was in school and looking disheveled. I was separated from my first wife and was in good shape, dressed nice, clean shaven and smelling good. I couldn't resist walking up behind her and tapping her on her shoulder. "Hi how have you been"?. It was awkward, lol.

Had a classmate once that did a lot of drugs while in school.

Years later I got called to a residence for an unresponsive male.

He allegedly had turned his life around and was a model citizen with a wife and kid.

Narcan says he didn’t….

Huh, weird... I must have gone to the only high school in America where the hot girls, for the most part, stayed attractive after school and are married, the folks that got good grades went to good colleges and have good jobs, and most of the popular people ended up relatively successful.

Or maybe I just enjoyed my high school experience and was friends with lots of folks on all ends of the spectrum so I am not bitter and full of shit.

I was in love with this little girl from 1975 (We were both in 7th grade) prettiest little gal I ever knew.  Pretty much every woman I've been involved with over the years was "her" as I thought she'd aged.  A couple of years ago I looked her up on google and found her (Under her name from '75) and she must've weighed 400lbs.  It's funny because we were both in the same field (Mental Health).

She was my prom date, and also class valedictorian. Had a FULL scholarship to medical school. She was extremely sweet but a little crazy (in a good way), and I loved it when she was around. Nerdy as hell too...she went her way, I went mine.

What seemed like a lifetime later, a girlfriend at the time, trashed my prom pictures and her pictures. Figured I had none left. Decades passed...

Last year I was scanning boxes of family pictures from 35mm prints to digital, that had been in storage for decades. Some of these pictures had also been in storage out of State 2K miles away. COVID allowed a lot of things to come together. Found some of her pictures, including the Prom pictures. Her name popped in my head like it all happened yesterday...

Her mom was extremely nice and really liked me. Her Dad had passed years prior.

I figured 110% she did become a doctor. Never had a doubt in my mind. For her it was personal. She truly believed she could help others avoid what she endured.

I googled her. She never became a doctor (that I could find) but did become an attorney.

She also got arrested several times, including police chases and some really crazy shit.... She did make the 7 o'clock news some years back.

One time in high school, me and a couple of friends stole their dads sports car, and we went to the city for the day. It was awesome. We went to museums, a baseball game, and saw a parade.

He almost caught me, but my sister saved my ass at the last minute.

LOL I just invited a friend from college to come visit. He took me up on it. I haven't seen him in over 35 years. The last time I did he stayed at my house and we awoke to him playing air guitar on a step ladder in our sunroom (all windows in the the corner of the building on a busy street facing a park) in his underpants and cowboy boots. I've talked to him many times, but we haven't actually seen each other or spent time together since the air guitar incident. I assume he won't do that here. It should be fun, but may be odd and it will be anything but boring. I know we share the same political views but he may be a little more extreme than me. We'll see.

I was also voted "Most likely to go to prison" in my college dorm.  And now I do mostly municipal law for several cities and counties. Not that it still wouldn't be possible to get on the wrong side of politics and end up in prison; but so far so good.

Had gotten in touch with an ex-GF years back. She had also been a friend of my (now) wife, in fact when we were all just friends my (now) wife was the one who had gotten the ex and I to first date.

She's a veterinarian now, so I checked out her practice's website. In the photos on there she looked exactly the same as when we had dated.

My wife and I eventually called her and we all chatted for a while. I commented on her photos and she responded that they were "very old" photos. Turns out that during her marriage she had gained a lot of weight and lost it after getting divorced. She had found out that her husband had been cheating on her. Me, being the tremendously empathic person I am, took great pleasure in reminding her that she had dumped me. I had dug into her website a little more after that and found some more recent photos. She was as skinny as when I had met her, but just looked like life had kind of worn her down.

We chatted a few more times but eventually it started feeling kinda forced, so I stopped responding to her emails. We had always had a kind of odd relationship in that she seemed to be WAY more attracted to me than she was comfortable with and it made our interactions kind of strained. I still get notifications that she's been checking out my LinkedIn profile every once in a while, but I never view hers or reach out any more.

She had gotten remarried shortly before we had last spoken and I wish her nothing but the best in life, but I don't need to be a part of it.

There is something about the summer months between 8th and 9th grade for girls that they fill in. I remember one girl I was friendly with that was somewhat flat chested but had nubs to be wearing a training bra. Took the summer break and when I seen her the first day of 9th grade, she popped with a nice set of C cups and her ass looked nice. First couple of weeks of 9th grade she was nervous and coy about the new boy attention she was getting but after that, full on certified hoe when she realized what she had going on and how to use it. Never could find her years later to see what happened but if her mother was any indicator of the future, I am sure she looked like a can of exploded biscuits and was a muffin top lard ass.

Sounds like my neighbor Randy. He was about three or four years older the me and was always in trouble. He was in fights all the time and got arrested for breaking into the local Army base to steal two Jeeps. Selling drugs and stealing cars caught up with him and I know he did some time back 40 years ago.

He contacted me about four or five years ago after having found God.

He was a very religious person and spent his time helping others to find the word.

I was very sorry to hear of his passing.

Kevin!

Kevin was so cool when he left home at the age of 16 and rented a converted two car garage as his apartment. We had many a crazy party there. 15-years later I came back home from the Navy to bury my grandmother and Kevin is still living in the same garage working the same worthless job. Getting drunk and high and listening to music and playing video games is a hell of a life apparently.

Just posted this the other day in another thread.  I can't think of anyone else I've kept up with or run into that was as big of a shock or quite as sad.

Man, I've recently started going to a new grocery store because I have to bring my mom and it's the one she likes.  The other day I walked up to the checkout and there was an older woman (probably in her 60s) working the register.  Really thin hair in a ponytail with bald spots showing through, wrinkled skin, etc.  As she started talking to us I saw she only had about half of her teeth and what was left were all misshapen and black with rot.

About the time I glanced at her name tag I had the shock of realizing she was a classmate of mine.  We're 45.  I don't know if she recognized me or not and I wasn't about to say anything but it felt awkward for me.

When we were growing up you could tell that she probably had a pretty hard life.  Definitely in the poverty level zone.  But she was sweet and cheerful and always smiling.  Obviously she has or had gotten into drugs at some point because there is NO way all that was just run-of-the-mill hard living.

She was still sweet and cheerful and smiling and it kind of breaks my heart to think about who she was as a kid/teenager and the life she must have had over the years.

Went back last week and saw her again.  She was working the floral department and my mom wanted a plant so I spoke to her about that but we still didn't *recognize* each other.  Not sure how I'll play off the awkwardness if it comes to that at some point.  Looked her up in my yearbook for nostalgia's sake and it broke my heart all over again.

I went to my 10-year HS reunion. After that experience I didn't attend any more.

It was pretty depressing, 90% of the people I thought would go somewhere were basically failures.
90% of the people I thought would fail, failed far worse than I could imagine.

As noted above, most of the hot women became overweight single moms.

I've never been to a high school reunion. I left home for the Army the summer I graduated with nothing but a backpack and three changes of clothes. I never had any contact with anyone after that. I didn't tell anyone but one close friend I joined the Army, because he did too. I wasn't really a popular kid, I did get along with most everyone. I did hang out with the stoner group and smoked alot of weed, but it never really appealed to me to continue that lifestyle.

I've only been back there a couple of times. One was for a funeral and one was to check up on my mom. I had to get a flat fixed when I went to see my mom. The guy that fixed my flat was a classmate of mine. He seemed shocked to see me and said that everyone thought I was dead. I got hurt pretty bad doing Army shit and I guess my mom told her friends and it took on a life of it's own.

When I had Facebook, I had a few old classmates try to friend request me but they were people I had no interest in reuniting with. They were either the stuck up bitches or the jackass football players. My 30th year reunion was last year and I still don't have an interest in attending. The past can stay in the past.
