IIRC, every use of a firearm by the Brit armed police - no matter how cut and dried - has been prosecuted or locked up in contentious civil litigation for years. Welcome to the jungle brothers.

Good that the British police are unwilling to chute their own. If the Army stands down, then it's over.
That happened in Romania and the USSR. In the former both its army and police lowered their muzzles. They were sick of chute'n their own. In the latter the army refused to leave its barracks to support the militia (Soviet name for the police). The once mighty Soviet Union passed without a whimper. |

Just came back from London. Spoke to some armed Met police asking for directions and what not. They seem to be pretty squared away, I would argue more so then your average big city PD.

I knew a couple of Met policemen and when they visited me here in Estados Unidos, I'd take them to the range. They loved the armalite (as did their Irish girlfirends). All cops should join the International Police Association which promotes friendship.

I read only one that mentioned the dead guy hit one of the police cars with his car, but didn’t say what the circumstances were. A couple mentioned his car was a suspect in or linked to a “firearm incident” the day before. I wonder if he tried to flee and the police thought he was trying to ram or run them down when he was shot. |

The pay is absolute dogshit in small towns, the hiring requirements are often quite lax, so you have one cop for a small town who is in his early 20's with all kinds of perceived power. It's not a good mix. |

I believe it’s purely on a per officer basis or department by department basis The Met police were friendly and more than happy to tell me which way was what and where to eat. Unlike the armed German police who shoved a MP5 in my face for the same questions last year |
