Does your wife/girlfriend have your safe combo?

I know two guys who gave their wife their combo and both ended in disaster when they got divorced.

Nope she won't ever either, unless we sign a prenuptuial agreement every 7 years. Its fine for her to know where the house guns are kept just not into my safe when I should get one some day. Its just a bad idea to let someone know about your safe.

Funny story about that. My safes use her and my daughter's birthdays as combos.

She cannot remember what year they were born. She can get the month right, the day most of the time, but she's kind of fuzzy on which daughter is older.

I always ask, "weren't you there?"

This is what happened with me.

She complained and complained and complained that she can't get into the safes.

So I finally told her the combo to one of them and showed her how to open it.

She was never successfully able to open it and has since forgotten the combo.

Now she is on the warpath about it again and plans to write it down if I give it to her.

The problem with her having the safe combo is one of inventory management.

If she can get in, she can know what is in it at a point in time.

That defeats my ability to have mystery guns show up unannounced –– straight to the safe –– and if questioned...

Wife has access to everything we own.

Passwords to every account that matters. Email, banks, 401k, you name it. She gets power of attorney when I am away.

Combinations to safes, gun and regular.

Documenting all this in case you get killed is an interesting exercise.

Been married since the early 70's. Wife knows everything. Handles all finances, has access to ALL bank accounts, real estate, IRA's, stock accounts, gun safes and even the toolbox in the truck. Things have gone just fine.
