I guess the fact that other than an isolated sale, 193 is going for around $275 per thousand while 855 is still around $400.

That is my motivating factor.

855 is $300-320/1000. Not sure where you got $400 from.

Care to post a link to that? Everywhere I looked last night it was still $400 or higher for a case. Other than PSA buying by the box at $7.69 or something like that.

You must hate money.

That is an amazingly efficient way to waste money when M193 is nearly half priced and works great for training classes.
But hey, it's your money, light it on fire for all I care.

Let me clarify.

My go to rounds are 64 gr. Gold Dots. My range ammo (and class ammo) would be M193 55 gr. not 55 gr. Gold Dots.

Yes, that.  I use 855 at the gravel pit when I'm doing mag dumps or shooting up mufflers/appliances/pots and pans.  Seems dirtier than other stuff though.  I have plenty, but I also keep an equal amount of 193 and lot's of Hornady.

Have ZERO use for it.

M193 penetrates better at close distances.
M855 cannot be shot at any range nor competition I visit, especially on steel targets.
M193 is generally more accurate
M193 is cheaper.

Honestly, I think the ONLY people who buy M855 are either:

1.  Post/Current military and they just feel comfortable having what they used when in.
2.  People who just HAVE to have what the military currently uses.
3.  Idiots that are incapable of reasoned, rational thought.

People have reported poor velocities with that stuff - it ISNT M855.  It is being sold as SS109, but at least some of their batches have not met SS109 specs for velocity.

Title says it all. Do you keep some on hand or stick with your choice of 55 gr. stuff? Indoor ranges around here won't allow it and I have 1,000 rounds sitting I will probably never shoot. Thought about offloading it to make room for one of those cheap cases of 193 that are coming and pocketing some cash.

Thoughts?

SS109 is just the bullet. The cartridges can be loaded with SS109 bullets and still not be M855 because M855 is a spec of the entire cartridge (velocity, accuracy, etc.).

I read your post Buckshot, and then suddenly developed an involuntary eye twitch.

Well done brother

I buy it in bulk when it's cost effective to do so. Around here M855 is much easier to find than other flavors. It's training/practice ammo - it doesn't need to be 77gr SMK accurate.

Just curious - if all you want to do is "poke holes" then why would you not buy something that is much cheaper, and yet has better properties?

M193 (Wolf Gold) is available for $274/K.
XM193 from Federal is available for $300/K.

Personally, I cant fathom why someone would spend more money on foreign ammo, when they can buy it for cheaper from an importer/manufacturer that will stand behind the ammo.
