Look up "The Crown Estate" in the UK.

Short version. UK govt manages land owned by the "crown". A lot of that land is in urban areas and is leased/rented. The money paid to the crown by the UK govt comes from money the UK govt collects from leases/rent of the Crown Estate land, and the crown does not get all that money. The UK govt keeps most of that money for itself. The UK royal family actually earns more money for the UK govt than it gets from the UK govt.

If you want you could get into a discussion about how that land ended up belonging to the crown in the first place, but you'd probably have to go as far back as the year 1066 for that.

As for the wedding, don't know, don't care.
