They both have their strengths and weaknesses. I'll take either over a Ram any day though.

Ford....go with the company who did it on their own through the tuff times without taking tax payer dollars. Except they did take tax dollars. Ford, being the only company that didn’t get the much-publicized bailout back in 2008, had the envious position of bragging about its financial stability to its Detroit rivals. But this time it’s Ford, not GM or Chrysler, that has been receiving loans from the US government in order to upgrade its assembly lines.
Ford received $5.9 billion in June 2009, and since then has received more than $4.5 billion to retool 11 plants in five states, according to a Department of Energy spokeswoman. http://www.automotive.com/news/ford-nissan-quietly-received-loans-from-department-of-energy-for-fuel-efficient-vehicles-74417/ |

I was really looking forward to the new F150, but I'm going to pass on the '15.
It's only getting a 6 speed this year, I think it's supposed to have an 8 and 10 speed available next year. I believe Sync is also to be replaced in '16. I'm not buying a new truck that'll be an old truck next year. I like all of Fords selling points on the new truck, but it'll be better next year. Of course you can't get the 8 speed with the 5.3 on the Chevy for '15. You have to wait for '16 for that too. Those Rams are looking pretty sharp. And the review have been pretty positive. |

My next truck will likely be a F150. (If I can find one around here with a V8 for under 50K )

I drive diesels, we need them for farm work. Only one choice when it comes to diesel, and it's a Dodge. If you want to get picky it's a Cummins wrapped in a Dodge.

Every truck I owned gets sprayed with hydrolic oil in the rocker panels, doors, and up in the fender wells. I drove my 95 toy t100 til 2008 with no signs of rust.

wow, so after 65,000 miles it turns into a dpms lower. go ford.

So Ford is advertising "military grade" aluminum and Chevy has rolled steel that is "used to make US submarines". How long before Ram comes out with a truck that has some stupid ass comparison to military hardware?

I think our old friend "rust" will settle this debate a few years down the road.

Will have to see how the paint holds up, extremely hard to get paint to stick good to aluminum especially in high calcium chloride areas....as for the poster who said they sell more trucks then anyone else..technically they don't..GM out sells them when you combine chevy/gmc/caddy...all built on the same platform.....as for the V-6..I will still take a GM 6.2 over it..better performance and fuel economy out of the new 6.2.....Drive what fits you..they are all damn good compared to even 10 years ago... View Quote Yeah, biggest threat is galvanic corrosion in the rust belt. I've seen so much of it on cars and trucks, that it's going to take time for me to believe that Ford has taken enough safeguards to prevent it. I'm more concerned about the points where steel meets Al than I am about paint peeling. |

Ford F2/350, since you can get a diesel 3/4 or 1 ton from them for like $2k more than a half ton now.

Have owned a non aluminum ford and a chevy. Own a dodge now for a reason. Are they both still using leaf springs in the rear? Outdated bro. And yes, leaf springs hold up much better with heavy loads. They're useful if you use your truck for anything besides BroDozing around town. |

If I was buying a new pickup it'd be a 1 ton and it'd probably be a Ram with a Cummins. Having said that, if we limit the discussion to 1/2 tons only, I'd look at the Ford...and then probably still buy a Ram.

I'm rocking a 2014 GMC Sierra with the 5.4 EcoTech at the moment. Liking it so far.
|
|
I wouldn't ever buy a Ford..not be a use of ecoboost or aluminum bodies but because Ford likes to experiment on it's customers...I've had issues with GM products...all of it out of warranty..and after a phone call to the regional GM reps all of it was covered by GM. Ford has told many people I know to get bent the moment the warranty expired...even with egregious defects. For some reason the brand loyalty allows owners to look past this. I would never trust a Ford power train over the long haul.
I've done cab corners on my truck after 200k in the rust belt. I can't complain about that...salt is brutal.
