Excuse my ignorance, but how thick are ar500 plates normally? (I have never had any type or armor)
Reason I ask is that I have a 3/8" gong and it stops m193 every time. I am guessing these are a lot thinner for weigh reduction? Or does it have more to do with it being on a swinging platform rather than pressed tight against a body? |

I'm a complete novice too, but I think it may be time for me to go for it at this point. At least I'll have it if it's banned.
Regarding ceramics, how durable are they? I mean, I don't think I'd think twice about just tossing the steel plates around in the carrier, but if the ceramics break or crack when doing that I'd have to watch what I do. Can they deflect multiple hits or is it like a one and it's done thing? Any point to side plates? Assuming an unlimited budget, what the top tier setup you can get. I'm not gonna skimp. Best level IV ceramic armor, best plate carrier system, etc. Build it for me. |

Super light, thin, multi-hit, stop most common threats. Ive seen some of the plates they have tested,(albeit the older multi-cam ICW version) they are great stuff. Two questions, what size Mayflower APC would I need? I am 5'10, 195 lbs, athletic build and 32" waist and I fill out Large shirts pretty easily from Under Armour, and Article15 clothing. Would I need a Large or Medium? Also, I was looking at Spartan Armor's level IV stuff and are they gtg? |

I bought a used Point Blank Interceptor with all the Kevlar panels and front and back plates for under $200. I did a ton of research, and the best I can determine is that as a rule, barring long term high heat storage and severe abuse, Kevlar and ceramic plates do not significantly degrade over time YMMV I'm willing to make the bet, based on my own research. Even if you have to have new, if you've got the coin, I'd go ceramic. My " el cheapo" rig

And in weight and thickness, the Venture compares poorly to the VS special threats plate. |

If we are now comparing special threat plates to something that is level IV stand alone and meetESAPI standards, then we are talking two different things. Besides, there are better, thinner, cheaper special threat alternatives. But as I said, SKD makes good stuff and "best" is relevant to what features are required. When I think "best", I want the lightest plate, with the highest performance, in a multi hit build, that stops all threats. Special threat plates are great but again, the Velocity plate still doesn't win the title in that category. |

they were a little cheaper a few months back but still a good deal if you can wait highcom runs specials all the time. |

| IMHO, if you want high speed, low drag $$$ armor that you probably will wear less than 1% of your waking hours, buy and wear 40lbs of ceramics, covering neck through balls, don't forget the shield and the helmet. Cool for classes and maybe the range. Maybe for SHTF. If you want Kevlar that you can wear all day in an office or at the movies with hardly anyone knowing, but which is basically porous to anything over +P, that is a different purchase, By the way, that would be what cops and guards, i.e. people that walk while working wear all day, every day. Unless they are coming through a door to kill someone. |
| I bought HighCom plates when they made a BF mistake and got them for $201 shipped. They stood tall and honored the sale. Quick shipping...appears to be a quality plate both in person and via web reviews...Haven't had to use them other than throwing in the $50 plate carrier I acquired somewhere along the way (also a sale item worth well more than I paid) and looking cool in my underwear, but it is nice to know I have a set should the end times be near. |
