I do to, but having another one or two won't hurt.

This will be right about bonus time.

My grandfather bought his M1 Carbine from the CMP in the 60's.  I have it now.

I've been waiting for them to get some in. I have wanted a Carbine for quite a while now, but I was unwilling to pay $$$ for a POS import that have been going for at least $800 at the gunshow.

Even if they have worn out bores, I would send it to DGR and get a repark and new bbl put on. I even have a nice M2 stock set ready to use if I get one with bad wood!

"Marksmanship or other Firearms Related Activity" is this part something new?

I'm a member with GCA... and I recall joining the club was all you needed for purchase.  As long as you're legal to buy firearms.

That sucks.

Unless I misread the qualification, I can skip both requirements as a member of the National Guard.

I think the competition requirement was added to help prevent dealers from joining a club and purchasing rifles for resale.

Kind of silly now, considering that most of the rifles they have seem to be in pretty rough shape.

If they are $500 then it's a bargain for any manufacturer. For some of the rare M1's it would be a giveaway, seeing the collector market prices.

Here's the lowdown on production numbers....I know which four I will be hoping to snag!

Rock-Ola Music Corporation (ROCK-OLA)                      228,500

Standard Products (STANDARD PRODUCTS)                   247,160

International Business Machines (IBM)                         346,500

Quality Hardware (QUALITY HARDWARE)                       359,666

National Postal Meter (NATIONAL POSTER METER)          413,017

Saginaw (SAGINAW DIVISION,GENERAL MOTORS)S.G.     293,592

Saginaw (Grand Rapids) S'G'                                       223,620

Underwood-Elliot-Fisher (UNDERWOOD)                        545,616

Winchester (WINCHESTER)                                          818,059

Inland (INLAND DIVISION, GENERAL MOTORS)              2,642,097

I've got a question for you CMP folks:

Has anyone tried to purchase the parade rifles from the service academies?  I'm sure the service academies need to upgrade to AR style rifles.  It shouldn't be too tough getting the old Garands servicable again.

Don't get too excited. CMP seems to be pretty aware of the going rate for various makes and prices accordingly. If they are rare, they will almost certainly be priced higher.

A lot of drill rifles have plugged barrels with various parts welded.

It's a shame that after this, the CMP will effectively be dead, as the US has transitioned to automatic weapons which cannot be transferred to the CMP and subsequently to civilians.

The bores should be good to go. IIRC , the US .gov never made any corrosive ammo for the carbine.  I have an IBM and a Saginaw. Both Blue Sky imports but they are excellent.

They are a great little gun. The first PDW.

Oh, I'm there, dude! The moment they become available, I will buy one; two if the price is right.

Cross my fingers and hope that I can get either a Rockola, IBM or NPM carbine, but at this time? I'm not picky.

I WANT ONE NOW!!!!

I remember the glut of imported M1 carbines about 13 years ago...I think we were paying under 200 per rifle when I got mine. Is $500 really considered a good price nowadays? Other than wanting to buy for historical purposes.....

I would be very surprised if they sold them as cheap as $ 500 . As stated the CMP got out of the " Bargain " business about 6 yrs ago .... My guess is more in the $7-800 and up with anything near original or special going to the CMP Auction Frenzy

The CMP says they research market prices using auction boards and gunlist when they make a price decision .

People got all excited about the Greek 03's but when they finally shipped people were apalled by the poor condition they were actually in as they were expecting alot since they were asking a hefty price . At the time $400-500 03/A3's on the open market were minty orig or exc refurbed DCM rifles.
