COAL REGION THING I THINK. I like the ground city chicken, more then the chunk city chicken. Did you ever have it ? do you like it? here is a link to the recipe.

Yep, grew up with it. Chunks on a stick. It wasn’t a coal region thing…unless inner city Detroit and the Midwest is coal country…

Yep, had Shitty Chicken at the Shitty Wok in the Denver Airport. I laughed the whole time I was ordering it because I had no idea it was a real place.

Been a long time. They used to sell "kits" with the chunks and skewers at the meat counter back then. https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/422/not-1978517.jpg View Quote |

True story: When I was a kid my mom took me to a meat market while shopping once, and I saw City Chicken. 6 year old me did the math on what birds I saw flying around the ‘burbs I lived in and concluded that it had to be pigeon or seagull…

Ate it all the time growing up outside of Pittsburgh. Very common there, also the premade packages at the meat counter.
OP, you know you’re famous, right? |

City chicken is the best - pork chunks and chicken chunks put on a stick, breaded - then fried.
Grew up on the stuff in Michigan. My Aunt always bright it to holidays. |
|
My grandma and mom made this a lot. They usually used pork. Not always on a stick though. Yum!

Yup, had it all the time. Very popular in the Pittsburgh region.

I ate a skinny chicken cooked on top of a shopping cart in the street of Kabul once. It was actually pretty delicious.

Shitty chicken is better than shitty people with their shitty bottled water and their shitty Tesla's and shitty soy lattes
South Park Season 25 Episode 3 Chitty People |
|
My grandma from Hamtramck made it from veal and pork. Then coated in seasoned bread crumbs and pan fried.
Some of the polish markets here still make it that way. |

My grandma used to make it, both chicken and pork and I absolutely loved it growing up.
Thanks for the recipe, we couldn’t find hers when she passed. |

It’s hard as fuck to get veal these days because PETA morons have traction to put pressure on grocery stores.

Popular with the Italians in Detroit. Often consisted of veal in addition to pork.

Lifetime PA resident. Never heard of this stuff until now. Had to look it up. Cooked cubed pork & veal that is called "City Chicken". Those people over in West New Jersey be silly.

View Quote I was always led to believe it was a Polish thing. Very big in Hamtramck. Never had the chunk kind though, It was always ground and formed in the shape of a chicken drumstick. Remember them tasting better when I was a kid. Would get a big bag of them from my Grandma every year for my birthday. She passed away Sunday before last and now I'm sad again . Still have some in the freezer and think I'll make some up and say grace with her one more time. God I miss that woman. |
