Damn....
Two years ago I got to watch him put on a shooting exhibition that included shooting aerial targets with his pistols. At that time he was having health problems, but he and his wife still put on a very impressive show.

It's on Wikipedia, has to be true.
I'd say he's gone fellers. He was 70 years old. |
|
can not find any news on this either other than Wikipedia...
well if true R.I.P. Bob Munden you were one of my heros growing up... |
|
RIP and condolences to his wife and family. Saw him do a demonstration in the early 1980s and I remember being in awe as a teen that he moved much faster than I could follow with my eyes. It was like real magic. Sadly, today is the day someone might be able to outdraw him.

I certainly respect how fast and good he was with a pistol. But, He did not seem like a fun guy to hang out with. He seemed to have a very high opinion of himself that i would find off putting. Tactless of me to speak ill of the recently departed. People who are the best in the world didn't get there by thinking they were inferior. I always liked watching his demos on TV. |

RIP, Bob. I remember seeing him as a kid. Damn, he was fast.

He was a pretty good gunsmith too, right? He only worked on Colt SAAs. But apparently did wonders with them. |

RIP, you glorius fast drawing bastard. he was a pretty good trick shooter with a shotgun and rifle, too. and yes, he gunsmithed SAA's for fastdraw and trick-shooting. |

I met him in person after a show.A little arrogant....but ..he earned it.
|
|
RIP Munden....and the world's a little bit less interesting now.

He was a pretty good gunsmith too, right? yup, one of the best at building quick draw fanable single actions.. Looks like I need to get to work.. He's done a lot of work for the CAS crowd over the years too.. From what I've heard from people who met him, his "Show" persona was a lot different from his Day-to-day persona. Either way he's one of the greats at what he did. |

My father is lucky enough to own a Colt SAA that has been worked on by him. it is quite possibly the smoothest pistol I have ever shot. The trigger feels like ice gliding across a sheet of glass. Met him for a few minutes at a demonstration, didn't seem anything like his "performance" personality, seemed like a nice guy. |
|
I met Bob at one of the Shot Shows in Houston years ago and chatted about guns with him for a few minutes. He seemed like a good guy.
I also have a Single Action Army that he did an action job on and it is superb. RIP, Bob Munden. :( |

was this the guy who fired three rounds in less than a second? i think he was on mythbusters as well.

Tactless of me to speak ill of the recently departed. My sentiments exactly. He seemed like a pompous, self absorbed, indignant, egotistical jerk off. All this based on my experience in watching him on TV. Theres no debating he was a hell of a pistol shooter, and in the end I guess thats what I respect most about him. Anyone able to do what he did with a gun obviously loved the sport/game of shooting and dedicated a large portion of his life perfecting that art. I'm smart enought to know that his TV persona is what he wanted portrayed and probably has little bearing on the type of person he REALLY was. If it's true, then the world has lost a great shot. I met him briefly at the NRA convention a few years ago. He was approachable, funny and self-depreciating. I would have loved to have been able to spend more time with him. My wife and I first met Bob and his wife Becky at the SASS Convention a few years ago. They were both very fun and engaging people who obviously loved life and each other very much. He was very confidnet in his abilities but, what you saw on TV was for show. It was nothing like the real Bob Munden. RIP Bob, we'll miss you. |

What a shame. Always enjoyed watching him display his talents. I wish I had 10% of his ability. Your probably close to 10%. You probably have 90% of it. It's that last 10% that gets everybody. Plus, the guy shot guns like most people breath. Awesome shooter. Rest In Peace, Mr. Munden. ETA - I saw one of those shows at the amusement park in New Jersey. It was at Great Adventure. He talked about movie cowboys and said that of all of them Clint Eastwood was the only one who ever tried competitive shooting. He said Jerry Lewis was the fastest draw in Hollywood. |
|
Wow, that's too bad. I always enjoyed watching him on Impossible Shots.
A few months back there was a thread that had a link to a hit piece on Bob. I believe one of the site staff or mods (?) related that Bob had posted in the thread, so he was a member here... Bob may not have been the richest man in the world, but he made a living shooting guns and working on them. My hat is off to him. Fair winds and following seas Bob.

Now let's try a balloon at 200 yards ...... doesn't sound too hard ha ......... how about with a .38 snub nose. Sorry to see him go. RIP Bob. He was the man. |

Kick a man when he is dead . Whatever. RIP From the way people are describing him, he seems like the sort of guy who'd get a kick out of that, who made his "stage" persona out of being big and bombastic and a little bit smarmy and disdainful-- he sounds like he had the swagger of a guy who knew he was the best. I took most of the jibes to be in that "magnificent son of a bitch" vein, intended as high praise for a big character and not as running a guy down. See, e.g., "Bill Brasky is a son of a bitch!" |
|
Bummer. He definitely seemed cocky, but like they say.. "It ain't bragging if you can DO IT."

Best I was ever doing was 150 yards with a Kimber ProCarry on large coffee cans, standing of course. 100 Yards was pretty easy but 150 was tricky with windage more so then elevation. Don't recall ever shooting a pistol much further then that. Was always amazed watching him, especially shooting coins out of the air! |
