I just watched the Lord of War. The 7.62x39s journey from the factory to the magazine then being fired in the opening sequence has to be one of the most creative openings that I have seen in a long time.
The best however has to be the opening of the original Star Wars. That was amazing when I was a kid and even now. |
That came to mind immediately. |
the opening to Men in Black was pretty cool with the dragonfly....
Star Wars, when the Star Destroyer kept getting bigger and bigger, taking up the whole movie screen.
I liked the Lord of War opening too, even though I doubt ammo's packaged that way. Still, it was a great use of the medium, and original.
I'm still thinking of great openings. I generally like the James Bond formula of an opening scene and then the credits. My favorite is The Living Daylights, with the training mission on Gibraltar. Mainly because I've never seen Gibraltar in movies aside from The Living Daylights and Das Boot. |
How about Spaceballs? I thought these were good, too. The World is Not Enough XXX |
+1 I couldn't care less about the rest of the movie, the opening sequence is what made the movie worth watching, in my opinion. The rest of the movie was good, too. |
Indiana Jones Raiders where it's the young Indy and the snakes.
The Bond movie where he dives off the dam |
LOW's bullet cam was fun,
But Once Upon A Time In The West is the best, without a doubt. "Did ya bring a horse for me?" "Looks like we're shy one horse." "No, ya brought two too many." |
While the movie sucked......the opening scene to "The Sum of All Fears" was pretty good.
Star Wars
Pulp Fiction Quigley Down Under Dawn of the Dead 2004 (the opening credits) |
I was thinking Lord of War when I read the title. |
+1, 15 minutes that will show you everything you need to know about hell on earth I also like the beginning of Air Force One |
No, spy who loved me when he jumped off the cliff skiing and opens his parachute. Oh, right after he banged the hot chick and killed the other hot chick's dude. Goldfinger was pretty good, too. Bombing the oil refinery after SCUBA diving and then electrocuting the bad guy and throwing away another hot chick. The James Bond types have done a good job making good openings. Raiders was amazingly good. |
When I was growing up, I loved the opening to the movie 'Firebirds' I was awesome to see the Apaches coming up and filing the screen like that. For a long time, right up until my senior year in HS, I wanted to be an Apache pilot cause of that movie.
Important note here. The best actor in that movie was the Apache |
Apocalypse Now, although it was short.
The oft-mentioned Lord of War. Kill Bill V. 1 Pulp Fiction The opening to Thirteen Days was, although stock footage, dramatic and set the tone for the entire movie. I forget, what was the opening to Boondock Saints like? |
I dont know, i thought Saving Private Ryan's intro was pretty intense.....
Where they are in Church and the Priest is talking about Kitty Genovese and what happened to her, with the kickass choir music going on in the background as they go up to the front of the church, kneel and pray and then walk out. That just screams badass. |
Snyder's remake of Dawn of the Dead's intro was pretty good.
I like the bond movie Tomorrow Never Dies. The movie sucked but the intro where he hijacks the plane with the nukes was pretty cool.
Lord of War is an awesome intro.
Sin City is an awesome intro as well, and goes great with the final scene. |
Some of the Bond opening sequences are also good. But again Star Wars takes the prize.
The opening to Smokey and the Bandit 2 where one of the candidates drops dung from a airplane
Being ancient, the first Star WArs movie ws pretty spectacular for it's time. I also like the opening scene of the first Star Trek movie. The Klingons battling V-ger. Outstanding music for that scene. I even have a 33 LP soundtrack of that movie just because of that score. Unfortunately, I should have left then and there.
I haven't seen too many movies at the theater the last several years. Many of them just don't appeal to me anymore. |
Star Wars
Outlaw Josey Wales (pretty much the whole Civil War shown as the opening credits roll) Blues Brothers (Jake Blues leaving prison, getting into the Bluesmobile as "She Copped the Cady" plays) The Muppet Movie |
I really liked the opening sceen in Gladiator, when Maximus is talking to his troops about the upcomming battle
Black Hawk Down was pretty good |
Dawn of the Dead (2004)
Day of the Dead Star Wars Goodfellas The Way of the Gun |
Is "She Caught the Katy" the song you're mentioning? |
I remember seeing a film in my college film courses where God commits suicide hari-kari style in the opening scene. Needless to say, the film was not a comedy. I'll never forget the feeling of dispair and hopelessness from that scene. |
Romancing the Stone. My wife & I thought we were at the wrong movie during the opening sequence.
What's it gonna be, Angelina? -It was Grogan - the filthiest, dirtiest, dumbest -excuse for a man west of the Missouri River. You can die two ways, angel. Quick, like the tongue of a snake, or slower than the molasses in January. - But it was October... I'll kill ya, damn it, if it's the Fourth of July. -I told him to get out, -now that he had what he came for. -That was the end of Grogan, -the man who killed my father, -raped and murdered my sister, -burned my ranch, shot my dog -and stole my Bible. -But if there was one law of the West, -bastards had brothers -who seemed to ride forever. |
Saw most of Lord of War last night. That AK47 round intro was definitely badass.
Another vote for Kill Bill Volume One. One of the greatest openings of all time....
When George C. Scott, as Patton, gets up on the stage to incite the troops before Operation Torch it has got to be one of the best openings in history. The filmmakers had to edit what Patton really said since his language, at times, was very profane. |
Yeah, brass is forged in a multi stage process, they made it look like it was stamped from sheet metal. |
Ooops! And +1 for Patton. |
