No, but I have a good idea of who it might have been.

I met up with about 40-60 people I backpack and paddle with on weekend trips here and there. The whole weekend is a big party. We ended up at dinner at the Brass Ring after the days events. From there, the party went back to the Clarion.
I wish I would have known you would be there. I would have liked to have met you.

that is because the chief of police is a HUGE lefty. The protesters that they drug out of the capital were not even arrested. Contrast that with the fact if you open carry in Madison in accordance with the state law though he supports your arrest!

I had only tentative plans on attending since I had to leave work.  I should have thrown on an Arfcom ballcap at least, but I wasn't thinking.  It was my first time going, I had fun, got some gear, and some great ideas.

I feel like tying the recent events in Japan into this discussion.  I have, admittedly, never been to Japan, but in the "no riots in Japan" thread there were several anecdotes about how much respect everyone has for both private and public property.  If we want a well ordered, safe, comfortable society, we need to adopt the same outlook.

The very word public implies ownership by everyone.  If you see someone damaging or destroying your property, what do you do?  Call the police!  Now we can't trust the police to enforce the law though!  And heaven help you if you mouth off to the protesters that they should be more careful where they tread and leave their trash.  I would expect a violent response.

Maybe Walker should call in the national guard.

"Those people" all believe they have a right to dip their hands into the pockets of others.

And there are no arrests because the fine, upstanding police officers of Madison refuse to enforce the law because they 100% support this Marxist uprising.

Where does the money come from?

Those pension "promises", made decades ago by politicians long retired or dead... who should be making good on them?  Why should I pay more in taxes because someone else promised you something a long time ago that they knew you would never get, but they didn't care because they were never going to be on the hook?

If unions think it's so criminal and wrong to "take away pensions", then they should be more than happy to pay more to support that system.

Deal is a deal.

Raise the taxes and get them paid off. Take away the future pensions if you want.

YOU should pay more because YOU were okay with it when the promises were made.

Also, many pensions work where the people pay a certain amount of money out of their wallet and in return later they will get it back plus interest on the loan in their pensions. While others might have been blowing their cash, some people were actually saving.

No.. it is not illegal!  They are negotiating new contracts. They are up for negotiation. It

is not illegal to renegotiate a contract for lower terms and concessions. The workers have

The reason is that they want to make something of themselves. It has been shown that teachers are at the low end

After all why do the teachers resist performance measuring? Everyone else gets evaluated. They are in fear of being

I live in the downtown area and I have to say that the number of protesters reported by the media is way off, at least at any given time –– there were never more than several thousand at the capitol square at any given time.  There is no way that the capitol square could fit a hundred thousand.  For example, during halloween, state street reaches about 35,000 to 60,000 people at any given time, and it is exactly a mile long.  I should go get some pictures

And it is a FUN Halloween party! It was way better years ago before they limited the crowd or did they stop doing that?

You sound like a character in the book '1984'.

Lower middle class? Give me a break. WI isn't much different than MI and around here the only time they are lower middle class is when they start.

Doesn't matter. Promises are promises. Ruining someone's life IS immoral by taking money away that is rightfully theirs. Whatever happen to the "honor" that this site boasts of? People on here get all shitstormed when someone backs out of a little gun deal. Imagine someone backing out of paying you your paycheck.

You exaggerate. Ruining someone's life. Please.

No such thing as a right to a job anyway.

Contributing to them is okay for future employees BUT adding that condition on something that has already been legally established is illegal.

You are totally clueless I see.

FYI: This is a gun board. One of the things that concerns people here, Lou, is that the legislature can make something perfectly legal today (like guns) illegal tomorrow.

It happens and the courts allow it. Good luck with your legal training.

1984 "Doublespeak" is exactly what is going on.

They should be holding up banners that read:

"WE WANT TO FORCE YOU TO PAY US MORE MONEY"

"NATIONAL SOCIALISTS UNITE"

"PAY YOUR TAX (our salaries and benefits) or WE'LL SEND MEN WITH GUNS AFTER YOU"

"fuck the free market, we are the government!"

"GROW GOVERNMENT GROW!"

"WE ARE THE BUREAUCRATS here us roar!"

"FREE BUREAUCRATS NOT FREE MARKETS"

Well, at least some landscapers will have work this Spring...

As well as sandblasters, painters, garbage collection people and many others.

The "It's mine to trash" mentality. No respect for anything. No thinking of consequences for their actions. Somebody else will clean it up.

It will take a lot of work and $ to fix.

Besides their self loathing, they're disrespectful and rude, not to mention hypocritical, and ignoramuses to boot.

And people who agree with that statement ^ are idiotic, crooks, and I may suggest some serious mental help for them.

It's one thing to take away pensions for future jobs.

No, it's not.  When the money is gone, promises can not be kept.  You would make the public economic slaves to the unions..  Because corrupt politicians were bribed by unions to writes those stupid contracts over threats.

During a drunken stumble home on a bender when I lived in NYC back in 05, I found myself at a protest with shirtless liberals beating drumbs at St. Marks Place about the war.  A good drunk WTF moment.

Name calling much?

The imoral act was making the promises to those people that were unsustainable.

"Besides their self loathing, they're disrespectful and rude, not to mention hypocritical, and ignoramuses to boot." and that isn't name calling?

The topic is not just public employee pensions, and if you were paying attention, you would know that no one is losing their pension in Wisconsin.  What they will lose in regard to pensions, or gain, depending on your perspective, is (to gain) responsibility to contribute to their personal pension funds, instead of robbing the taxpayer.

My point is protestors waving signs around about all sorts of unrelated issues, then acting like a bunch of inconsiderate morons; trashing the grounds and leaving their trash are the most visible signals.

Peace, brother.

Well your not suprised? The unions are led be liberals, the same people who loathe our military, hate conservative ideals, and cannot stand that FOX news will not be as biased as the rest of the MSM.

What the hell do you think happens when a private company over-promises to their employees?  Contracts don't get honored.  Some employees take a pay cut or everyone in the company loses their job.

That's reality, where the rest of us grown-ups live.  I'm in the military and I know that even though the government says so, there's no guarantee, NONE, that I'll get that retirement pension after 20 years.  Just because the government promised you something they couldn't deliver and you were foolish enough to believe it doesn't entitle you to use the people as an ATM.
