I wanted to just piss and moan about the gasket, hoping instead for an FAL style slide or some mechanical means of covering the cavern side of the bolt area, but the positives outweigh the negatives. Good upper to rail transition contour. Slick, clean bolt appearance even if it's a separate dustcover. Good improvement on takedown latch. |

It’s really nothing like an AR-180-type firearm appearance wise. I have two Sterlings, an AR-180B, and a BRN-180 built so that it looks like a modern AR-180 - used the club foot MagPull stock and have the Manticore Arms AR-180 stock for it. (I’m an AR-180 owner back to the 1980s and saw my first one in 1978.) They should have just changed the name as “Gen 3” doesn’t fit. It may be a fantastic rifle but it should have been given a new name. |

Honestly the BRN-180 is basically what everyone said they wanted in an AR-180C(/D/E) from Armalite. It looks great, so kudos! I’m all about that BRN-4 though.  I’m probably going to buy a 10.5 upper within the first half of the year to go with my 16. I’d love to see a BRN-4A5 if there aren’t HK patents on the upper changes.

This BRN-180 Gen3 is a significant improvement and addresses the shortcomings (ingress areas for contaminants & ergos) for a more serious user. This BRN-180 is a solid AR-180 evolution, and has the guts to prove it. IMO if you want a legacy gun, go get a HOWA produced version. The Costa Mesa and Sterling are not even close in quality. SigSAN has been using rubber gliders on 55X's charging handles for decades, can be a good solution. On this one it wont be getting beat with a reciprocating handle. |

No affiliation... let me rephrase, assuming your vocabulary extends to the level of your displayed thinking.. no connection, do not know, no worky there, no recess time with the kids at Brownell's playground. AR-180 is the mother of modern gas tappet carbines. HK416, HK G36, SCAR, BREN, etc. ad nauseum. IMO, the original BRN-180 was an interesting homage to an iconic 60's rifle. Gen2 marginally improved. Gen3 addresses shortfalls that would preclude a serious user from even evaluating for professional use. I'm a fan of an fundamentally sound American design rising again. An AR lower ~ 2lbs 2oz + BRN-180 13.9" upper @ 4.82lbs (4lbs 13oz) so ~ 6lbs 15oz vs IIRC about a pound lighter than HK416 |

My reply from the other thread. Charging handle needs to be forward, not on the side of the upper. Its gonna hang up on gear, or just snag a lot of clothing. I would actually buy one except for the charging handle location. I own a jakl, and the only reason I have not sold it is due to the charging handle location, other wise I think the jakl is too forward heavy. PSA please find a way to drop the weight out front that is retrofitable to the one I have. |
