44 now and I don't remember being in better shape. I do remember being able to do more bull work in my 20's but in terms of overall fitness and taking care of myself, I'd say from 40+

I work out 3 -6 days a week now, a steady 6 when I have time. Cardio/weights/swimming and a rock steady 186 lbs at 6'

I'd say 15-20 were my best years for over all Cardio, and or stamina related activities. For brute strength I'd probably say 25; by the time I was 30 I had already had some pretty serious joint issues. It  all quickly went down hill from there; I haven't been really 'healthy' since then.

I'm 50 now and so fucked up it aint funny, I've had more surgeries than I can count. I've had Orthopedic Surgeons tell me I have the joints, neck and back of screwed up 80 yr. old man...

For those of you who are young, or have been able to 'stay' in shape I say; cherish your youth and guard your health. With out good health you aint worth a shit for nothing. There's noting worse than growing 'old' before your time.....

When I was about 16 / 17 I used to play tennis for about 9 hours a day, every day. Not much fat on me then.

I can do most of the stuff now at 39 that I could do at my peak at around 25. The difference now is that with family and work commitments, I don't have time to get into the gym regularly and lift. Sure, I can no longer bench 300#, but now I put a bigger priority on cardio. I can always find 20-30 minutes to get in a run. I think that if I made the time to lift I could be back to where I was at in my 20's within a couple of months. The big difference between my 20's and now is recovery time between workouts and recovery from nagging injuries.

College days when playing I was playing on the team, had to work out everyday.  Im probably alittle stronger now, but can't run like I could then.

Edit: for those mentioning their college sports, mine was Lacrosse

right now I am in the best shape of my life.  I use to be moderately fit back when I was 10ish since I was into sports then I became a butter ball, but now (23) I have been running a mile and a half every other day in 9minutes and doing the 100push ups routine

In high school.  I was a multi-sport athlete, all-state in baseball, poised to go to college on a full ride to play baseball.  Then I got hurt and my scholarship was yanked.  I'm still in pretty decent shape, but I was a stud up until I was 18.  I'm working on getting back to that point.

20-25: I was riding (road bike) 200-300 miles per week. Plus, getting regular pie is good for the abs

Years of working behind a desk have taken their toll, but I'm working on it.

I worked on a dairy farm as a slave when I was 14 - 15.  The farmer was a tough, demanding guy.  I was whipped into shape quick.  Plus I rode dirt bikes and bicycles a lot, which helps as well.

I was in very good shape until I was about 33... I had plenty of time to do all the outdoor activities I grew up on, (-the cross country/down hill skiing after I moved south in 94) and was $ hungry, I would pick up about any side job especially landscaping, and tree cutting.

what happened ? ...lol...I got married and we now have a small child , now the only shape that I'm in is a bit rounder

I still do the things I use to do, just not nearly as much. hiking, biking, rock climbing ect. the only trees I cut are in my yard, and I rely need to do some landscaping around here as well ... hell I don't even shoot as much as I would like anymore

45+

Over fifty years old and in the best shape of my life.

Running, yoga, no junk food.

There is no reason (aside from disease or injury) that we cannot keep getting better and better well into our 50s.

A little slower perhaps, but we just get better educated and cagier about how we take care of the human carcass.

At 53 I have lost 30 lbs, lift weights and work out 1 1/2 to 2 hours EVERY day!  Haven't had a Mountain Dew in 3 months now. Gave up sugar 3 weeks ago. Feel great!  Look out world, I've got my 2nd wind!

At 32, I'm pretty ripped.  I wish I had taken full advantage of my youth and the growth hormones that accompany it.

Either way, I'm in much better shape than those who were athletic in high school and college.

in my mid-20s i took up bicycling, in addition to weight training. i weighted 190 lbs, could move a lot of weight, and could do a century ( 100 mile ride) on the bike. i was about 9% body fat.
I'm 45 now, and i lift a little and treadmill. i'm a lean 175 lbs, and I'm strong enough to do whatever i need to do without hurting myself, so i guess I'm all right.

Oh and I'm not buying the work/kids excuses.

I know first hand you can still do all that and be in good shape.

Working out 30 minutes a day isn't tough to do, and most of you know you blow more time than that on here screwing around.

Mid twenties i was built like a brick shit house(5'11 215-225 pounds 32" waist) and still had plenty of cardio ability. Would run a 13 flat two mile or Ruck 10-20 miles in the morning then deadlift 450+ for reps in the afternoon. Work related injuries have since piled up and it's tough but i keep doing what i can.

Also explains where i got my sig line from all those years ago.

ETA Reminds me of when i got called out in formation by the Sgt.Major. I forget the exact number but i beleive i scored a 270 on a PT test but still failed the run do to a healthy night of drinking. Had to stop a couple of times during the run to yak but still banged out a ton of pushups/sit ups giving me a high score.

My 20's were probably the best years, but I did well in my 30's too.  In my late 20's I could bench press close to double my body weight (I weighed 180) and ran 6-6:30 miles and averaged about 6% body fat.  In my thirties I could still bench over 300 but not quite double my body weight, even after I had a shoulder repaired. I also started to gain some weight from not running as much, went up to 215 by the time I was 39. I ran my first marathon at 40; not fast but I finished it. I also lost weight and went back down to 195.   Since then it's all been down hill.  Last year my warranty expired or something.  I ended up with a cardiac stent at 42 and herniated a disc in my back last Thanksgiving.  A year and a half ago you couldn't get me out of the gym.  Now, you can't get me back in.  Through inactivity, I have gained some more weight and am about 230ish right now.   I eat healthier (not that I ate bad before, my cholesterol problem is apparently genetic) now as a result of the stent, but I have gotten lazy.   I am trying to get the drive back and get back into the gym.  I hope to lose 25 lbs by my 44th birthday in January.

When I was in HS, I was pretty "normal" but not in shape.

Now.  I'm 24 and am taking BJJ classes Tues/Thurs/Sat and cycle Mon/Wed/Fri... Not to mention the yoga and pilates I do at home.  I've got a ways to get to my goal but I'll get there.  My boys deserve a mom that can keep up with them.

Hard to choose

15-20 playing hs football and running track

25-30  officiaiting around 60 games of hs/college basketball a season and playing 100+ softball games a summer  (not much time to drink beer)

25-30.  I was playing drums (thrash / punk) 2-3 nights a week and working out regularly.  Primarily cardio (elliptical machine and running up and down hills).  2 hour thrash shows can be exhausting.  That's a workout that those prancing pansies with their faggoty instruments never seem to understand.  They stand around and twang their strings, and try to look mean.  Maybe they shake their heads or something.  Me?  I'll beat your ass.

Hard to say...when I was a kid I walked or rode a bike everywhere and never worried about weight because it was never an issue in the first place.  Then I also didn't have arthritis, asthma, and chronic stomach problems like I have now.  (Age 33).  I'm fairly fit and strong now in spite of those issues because I make a mindful effort to exercise most days and half assed eat healthfully.  I took good health and weight control for granted when I was younger and can't get away with that now, now it takes conscious choices.

I'd say 17 was my "best" year.  I rode my bike all over town so I had a lot of endurance, I was in a dance class for one semester in high school (1.5 hrs a day, 2-3 times a week) and was very active with other extra-curricular activities.

Now I'm working back up to that, but it's a long hard road.

Between the age of 15 and 19.  Ran for miles a day back then, would average well over 200 pushups a day and double that in abdoms, plus frequent weight training.

Then I became a missionary in Venezuela and starved half to death.  Came home when I was 21 years old and only weighed about 127 lbs or so.  Started getting back into shape but having both knees go out, pneumonia (twice) and cancer cut out of my left arm all in just a few short years time really took a lot out of me.  Now I'm starting to work on getting back in shape again.

This.

But I chose now because I run 20-25 miles per week and did a half-marathon last year.  Going for the full sometime in the Spring.  Still carrying 25 extra pounds, though.

I voted 15-20 but it lasted until I was 24.  I started with BMX and transitioned into MTB 1500+ miles per year, played tennis, worked physical jobs, walked the woods hunting and fishing.  In the winter I skated, swam, and skied x-country and downhill.

Then I got married and things slowly where removed from my routine (but I did add canoeing and rollerblading at this time) until I had my first child at 28 when most fitness ended.

At 36 I'd gained some weight and a friend talked me back into racing MTB.  Now at 39 I'm in great shape.  Not as good as at 19 but in the top 5% of my age group I'd guess.  (I'm now 177 lbs at 6'1", just 12 lbs heavier than I was at 19.)

15-20

As a teenager I played baseball on a regular basis, I had no car so I walked all over the city, even tried out for the track team, and then after I graduated high school I joined the military––gained 20lbs of muscle and then lost it all after I was discharged.
