Got it.

Do you have a family at home?

Seems like a lot of hours and bs to put up with for not a lot of $ and no benefits

To be honest no. I don’t think I’ve ever heard it. Door greaters usually don’t say anything to me.

65k and you are responsible for the truck?  Doesn't seem that lucrative.  Wouldn't OTR pay better?

So you say you haven't been home in months, your job consists of hours of driving then 12 hours or so if downtime in a random parking lot? All for only 65k a year? Fuck that

Do you have to follow FMCSA allowable driving hours and time not driving (IE are you considered a commercial interstate carrier)?

What I've seen is about $1-1.25 ish per mile loaded, is that about correct?
What percentage of miles driven are deadhead?

So you make $2.48 loaded?
Or $1.24 loaded?
If the later you're almost losing money/paying them to go to work, that's only $.62 per mile.

If you have a CDL why not just run local class B stuff?
Most straight truck CDL jobs start at $15 minimum almost everywhere and you'd be able to sleep in your own bed and have a somewhat normal schedule.

$15 won’t cover my bills. I’d need $25.

No sure how the economy is where you live but here you have almost unlimited OT with most jobs due to lack of qualified people.
Even $15 and hour with 10-15 hours of OT would put you there.
I just checked the local jobs and cdl b with little experience starts at about $18 with benefits.

There's no way.. if OTR wasn't paying better, you either were sitting all the time, working for a bad company, or something.

I've got a buddy who does the OTR thing... right out of school he was making almost 40k.. which you're probably close to after fuel, repairs, and who knows what.  Granted, he was gone a lot, etc.. and he had to pay back his school loans so he didn't make much that first 2yrs.. but at 20+ years you should be able to find something.  He's just coming up on two years and and wants out of his company and has been calling recruiters.  He's got eyes on a couple of local jobs hauling fuel for around $25/hr

Ever stopped at Vandalia Range and Armory or Olde English Outfitters?

Both really nice shops.
