If you want to get rid of a lot of paint and with minimal hassle, just dump it in a large Rubbermaid type tub. Leave it in the corner of your garage and within a week or so (depending on your conditions), it will be dry. It won't stick to the tub and you can just peel it out and dump it in the trash. If you have multiple gallons that you're trying to get rid of, just dump the next one on top of the old one. Don't put too much in at one time though or it will take too long to dry. Or just mix it with portland cement and throw it in the trash. |

When taking apart electronics for repairs or upgrades, trace the item on a piece of paper. Put double sided tape on the paper anywhere there is a screw on the electronic, and when you remove a screw put it on the correct piece of tape. When you go to reassemble, each screw will go back into the exact same hole it came from. And you won't lose any screws. I've done something similar for years. I don't trace it but lay the screws out in the same positions they came out. Taking photos as you disassemble stuff can be a life saver too. |

I spray Hydrogen Peroxide on my Harley batwing to get rid of dried bugs before I wash it. The H202 starts breaking down the bug proteins right away and allows you to wipe them off without scratching paint. Works on anything with petrified bug splats. Holy shit. If this works, you just changed my life. The one thing I hate about living in the country is the volume of bugs that hit your car. I've tried clay bars, scrubbing vigorously, polishing compound, all with little success. It works... been doing it for years. Buy one of those cheap spray bottles and use it to spray the H202 (also cheap). You'll see the H202 start foaming as it immediately starts breaking down the bug proteins. If the bug splats have been there a while, I may spray twice and let the H202 soak for 5-10 min before washing normally. This eliminates the problem of the gritty dried bugs scratching your paint or clearcoat as you try to scrub them off. |

When prepping Jalapenos -if you don't want the seeds and pith. Remove the stem from the top of the jalapeno, take an old school potato peeler and stab the pepper from the top where the stem used to be. Ream the jalapeno with the peeler while holding/turning the pepper with the other hand. flip and shake out pith and seeds. Ready to dice. Great for Pico de gallo etc. As a bonus this process limits the intense capsaicin exposure to your hands. ( which resides in the seeds and pith) It is still not advised to go touching your junk or rubbing your eyes after doing this, but it won't hurt quite as bad for quite as long. |

I once bought a fancy solvent/degreaser. I opened the can, and I knew right away all it was was xylene. I could have saved a few bucks by buying the xylene.
I was going to buy some solution to get water out of my ear. I looked at the contents; it was rubbing alcohol with food coloring. Moral of the stories: check the contents before you buy something pricy or you may be that sucker that's born every minute. |

Yeah, and what do with the pinless grenade? This is getting to be pretty complicated. It's one of those tasks where you want to read and understand all of the instructions before you start.

Quoted: I fucking hate that phrase. Also - Ultrasonic cleaners. That is all. It's just a rebranding for guys who think "handy household tips" sounds too fruity. I don't think that's a bad thing. Granted, it's not a new concept. I used to like those pages of tips in hot rod comics like hanging a ball from the garage ceiling so when the windshield hit the ball you'd know you were in far enough, or nailing jar lids to the underside of a beam or cabinet and hanging up jars of small parts. My dad was kind enough to indulge me sometimes. "Hey, that's a great idea. Let's try it."

My daughter just explained the Walmart app for Android to me. You can download the app, then go to the "savings catcher" tab and scan your cash register receipt. If any retailer in your area has the items you bought on sale walmart matches the prices and gives you credit for it on a gift card. She got $2 and change back from the weekly shopping. It's not humungus, but it could add up! |

Mobil 1 works just as good as "gun oil" that costs 20x as much. How do you dispense it? Can a regular spray bottle pump it, or is it too thick? Go to the HBA aisle in Wal mart and get one of e small TSA approved shampoo bottles and just use the left over in the bottom of a quart bottle when you change your oil. |

I think I invented this one.
To keep your snow chains neat, get a couple canvas drop cloths. Lay the chains out, one on each drop cloth. Then roll each one up in its own drop cloth and tie with a string. When it's time to put chains on just roll them out behind your tires. No more twists, tangles, or swearing. When you take them off and they are dirty it helps keep the inside of your ride clean as well. |

Gentle, smooth steering inputs are the fastest way around a race track. If you jerk the wheel, you'll lose grip. Think of a salt shaker sittng on a sheet of paper. If you yank the paper out, you'll break the paper loose from the salt shaker. If you smoothly and gently pull it, you'll maintain traction and pull the shaker with it. It seems counterintuitive when you're trying to go really fast and takes concentration at first, but it makes a big difference. Having a deathgrip on the wheel isn't good either because it makes it harder to be smooth and limits feedback. The same concepts apply to driving in snow too.

Those of you whining about the term "life hacks..."
You do know that someone a while back created a cool website, "lifehacker.com", that features all kind of cool tips, right? It's a term that was coined as a catchy website URL so they didn't have to name it "www.cooltipsandtricksthatwillsaveyoutimeandeffort.com." It just caught on as a general term for stuff like that... like the brand names "Kleenex" and "Q-Tip." Big deal. |
