Just started with my 6 year old daughter for father daughter time and found it quite fun. We will be going to the bank to get rolls to go through on monday.

Yes, I separate them when I see them in my change. Have a big plastic jug full of them now.

Also saving nickels as well when they come in my change.

95% copper, 5% zinc..

In mid 1982 they switched the composition to 95% zinc, dipped in copper.

I started "hoarding" them many years ago, but since the last 2 or 3 years I hardly ever get any in change.

They're on average worth two cents in copper so why not save them. I pluck them from my change since it's free money. People even sell them as bullion on ebay.

The copper is worth more than a penny. The theory is that once we get rid of the penny as money then you might have pounds of scrap copper and make a profit.

When my Daughter was born, for some odd reason I started picking change that I found on the ground and threw it is a jug, when she was 16 I bought her a nice used car for her 16th birthday with the change I had picked up over that 16 years. I paid a little over $6000 dollars for that car and she still has it in her garage, so $6000 in 16 years of free money worked out good for her.

I have lived a lot of places in the past, most of them big cities, when I was stationed in DC you would be amazed how much change you can find laying around on the ground.

I live in a small town now and yesterday picked a buck and a half of change laying in the parking lot at the convince store I buy my beer at.

I know the typical reaction is to dig in, but that is making it worse. I'd guess that 80% of the square footage of a parking lot is covered with cars during the day. If you are going between cars all day the popo would roll up on you. Doubt you could find $1.00 in 12 hours of suction cleaning the Mall of America parking at night.

Another good place to find change is the self serve car washes with the bays that have a pressure sprayer, you would be amazed at how many quarters get dropped and roll in those places.

I keep pre-89 dimes, Grandson and I love to sort em. They're worth 9 cents each and once we find 11.1 of them were gonna cash them in on a dollar. That's like 10% return, you can't even earn that these days what with the market and all.

Nope, not everyday, just walking down a city block in a big city you can find change on the ground, it is just a hobby. Look down at the ground where you are walking, there is always stuff laying around on the ground that others drop.
