Find a groomer that also boards dogs, board them for two days and let them get shaved clipped ect.  Also shocking dog bark collars are like $20 on Amazon. A electrified fence wire will stop the digging.

My vizsla was so damn smart.

He'd come into my bedroom, knew I was sleeping , look at me and do this huff/wheeze sound and that would get me to roll over enough to give him room on the bed.  Then he would jump up on the bed and never wake me.

Not us - we're died in the wool dog parents.  Hell, we don't really even go on "away" vacations any more, because we don't want to stress the babies with boarding.

But I can understand where you're coming from - I had dogs all my life growing up, and much to my surprise, my parents are through with it and refuse to get a dog, even though we tell them they need the companionship and walking exercise, and the house guarding assistance.

There's also something to be said for being "empty nesters." We went about a year and a half without dogs after our previous dog died. Then we got two puppies (Golden Retriever and some barking cat mix) Now we're about 8-9 years into a 12-14 year commitment to never being away from the house for more than 10 hours at a time and never sleeping in on weekends. Dogs are great, but I'm looking forward to the freedom.

OP I feel your pain.

My oldest lab is now 14 years old and she makes so much damn noise all the time now. She coughs and pants and sounds like a freight train. She is up alot at night pacing and the click clicking drives me crazy.

The 5 year old lab also licks. She just sits there licking and it sounds like a goddamn sloppy porn BJ all the time.

Finally the rescue mutt my wife got is constantly digging and trying to run off. Open the front door and she bolts.

I love them but at the same time I am sick and tired of the bitches.

I don't hate dogs, I like them a lot actually...............when they are other people's dogs.

I never grew up around them, we always had cats. In my 20's we got a dog, loved her, and treated her good. She was a good dog, but a pain in the ass. When she died after living a good long life about 10 years ago I vowed to never get a dog again unless I "needed" a dog.

Cats are also a pain in the ass, but I keep them around for pest control, and I don't have to pick up their shit.

Non stop " play ball with us dad" every 10 mins " was that a squirrel? Let's go check" I'm ready to make rugs out of them...Cast comes off Tuesday morning and my happy ass goes back to work Tuesday afternoon. Good by dogs sucks to be you.

Honestly it's all been said... bottom line is this will take time and money.

Clicking? Trim their nails.
Not behaving the way you want? Train your dogs.
Not sleeping where you want? See above...who's in charge there? If your dogs won't even sleep where you tell them to, how do you expect anything else to work out well?
Smell? Bathe your animals.

If the multiple dog dynamics are giving you a hard time then work with a trainer to get everything figured out and put you or your wife back in the roll of pack leader. It will take some time and money, sure, but it's well spent if you aren't happy.

They are constantly under my feet. The never mind their own business. Scared of everything and bark when frightened. Shed like a oak tree in a tornado. Yet they are my sanity. They greet me at the car when I get home from work.  If they can't go, I don't go. We plan vacations with them being with us. I can't see myself ever without one, or two.

Never let them stay in human room until they are used to their own room, and then only in special circumstances, like a weekend and only from time to time.

Also, they don't like to be alone. My 3 beagles have their own sleeping space. They cuddle with us as we unwind and when it's time to sleep I say "goodnight" and they go to their room. I prop up, not latch just prop up, a baby gate in the hall that sort of blocks our room as a visual.

As for piss on the carpet, why? Do you not take them out? Mine have not peed on the floor since a puppy, and then only a couple times. Because I took them out a lot and I don't force them to hold their bladder. They have a doggie door. As a puppy they were closely watched as a puppy and confined to a room where they could be watched.

If I was too tired they stayed in the mudroom, where they could see us, yet also go out, plus they had pee pads as tiny babies.

How is it I have 3 beagles, and none of these problems, other then shedding but they can't help that. They don't even bark excessively.

Beagles. 3 of them. My babies.

I love my dog and am working pretty hard to transition to a work from home job where I can be home with her and the puppy we may be getting soon.

Then again, I bathe my animals, keep their nails neatly trimmed, and train them not to be assholes. Sounds like you don't really do that because you never really wanted the dogs in the first place and resent them and the responsibility that comes with them. I can see how, with that attitude, they seem more of a burden than a pleasure.

Because the fucking neurologist told her lap dogs are good for anxiety and literally wrote her a prescription for one. I gave in after that. He helps her a little but other than her feeding them once a day I have to take care of both of them and I'm the one that doesn't even want dogs.

I knew how it would play out. Truth is I fell for the little shit at first but now I'm over it.

Neurologist sounds like an idiot. I wonder how many more of his patients have unwanted neglected dogs because of him.

Dogs require care, they aren't medicine.
Maybe you should rehome the little dog. It sounds like it's adding to the problem. And get another doctor.

Not everyone can and should have a dog, they are a responsibility and an expense.

My experience with schitzus is that they are assholes. High maintenance and they stink. Prone to health problems.

Instead of getting a normal dog my in-laws always insist on getting an inbred mutant thing from a puppy farm or flea market because they are so "cute and tiny"

Then they have big vet bills trying to keep the poor thing alive that's diabetic and allergic to everything.

I would let someone else clip it's nails and groom it. Bill the neurologist.

My wife and I loved our dog dearly, and we were heartbroken when we had to put her down.

However, after not having a dog for a while, we realized how much work, and what an inconvenience, it was to have one.

It's been seven years now, and we still haven't gotten another dog. (We do have several cats, though.)

Not yet, but mine aren't inside dogs.  Wasn't raised up that way.

My mom and dad finally got tired (unable/worn out/too sick) to take care of dogs in their mid to late 70's.  Sick (cancer and other things) and bad weather (longer/colder winters in the mountains) just wore them down.

I let mine out of the pen two to three (sometimes four) times a day for romping, petting/rubbing, treats, bathroom stuff (they'd rather go outside their pen if they can) and trying to climb into my lap.

I'm 60 now and I'm beginning to feel like after these two are gone (both under 3 years old) that may not be that interested in replacing them.  I've buried several out back of the dog pen in the last 10 years (three for old age and one for cancer) and I don't like having to dig those big holes and cover my buddies up.

A doggie door is the answer to all your problems. Friends told me this and they were right. My dogs practically take care of themselves.
.
Of course I have a large fenced in yard too. I would never live anywhere without a fenced yard, whether I have a dog or not.

As for weekends, they do want their morning kibble, but after that they are fine. That just started with the last one because since he was a little puppy he needed to eat more frequently.

They have a routine and they stick to it come hell or high water. They are all adults now but they still get a spoonful of kibble in the morning. We have managed to get them to ask for it later. Spouse used to get up a 0430 and that's when they wanted kibble and snuggles.

Now it's when they sense we are awake or whoever gets up to go to the bathroom first.

During the day they lay on the back bedroom and look out the window and go outside occasionally. We can be gone an entire day and most of the night. We give them a good meal on those days. There have been a few times we stayed away overnight and a neighbor fed them.

Any longer and they go with us or we board them.

Tldl: dog door. Fence.

Ah, the great American dog (and cat) infatuation.

I like dogs (or most pets) but all this dog love has gotten stupid.  To the point if you are suspected of hitting a doh can result in criminal charges.

I grew up with animals. Horses, cows (raised for food, not pet) dogs and cats.  These animals had a purpose on our 27 acre property.  And yes they had their personalities.  But either serve their purpose or else....

And we've put down animals.  Not a vet for most of them.  A horse with a broken leg.  A pup still for going after neighbors chickens and rabbit pen.  Several kittens (4 or 5 mousers are enough).  My mom would use an axe on newborn kittens.  They had to go.  One of our dogs was notorious for killing kittens too.  I didn't care for that dog too much and was rather glad when she died.  She got cancer and was put down.... by a vet.  The other one, was an outstanding dog.  Went after anything that wasn't supposed to be on the property.  Coyotes, porcupines, a badger, which cost us plenty on vet bills and lost part of an ear.

Dogs and cats respond to human affection the most.  This is why they are popular.  But whatever happened over the last 35 to 40 years is stupidity,  We pay more attention to what happens to a dog than a kid.  And there is bug business with pets now.  Or how else do you think they make a profit.

We have a large house and maybe one day I will have a dog.  But I don't want the hassle of a shit factory.  Can't go on vacation without having to deal with that.  Dog shit and piss,  Vet bills, licensing, chipping, insurance, hair, what else?

And dogs reduce anxiety?  Really?  Please explain, I'm all ears.  I will show you many anxiety causing events with a dog.

My daughter wants a dog (any pet) but lucky for me our excuse is she is allergic to animal dander. friends of us actually recommend to have our daughter take allergy meds in order to have a dog.  Do you guys know the side affect of allergy meds?  How about no meds and no dog.  How stupid can people be? Wife doesn't want a pet either.  So stress free.

Yesterday I was putting my POS boat in the water with my dog, as I'm trying to get it started my dog jumps out and is running around the landing doing her coonhound thing (sniffing everything) so I'm trying to keep an eye on her as I'm fucking with the boat motor. Get it going, call her, comes right over so I can set her in the boat. I set her in the boat, we start motoring out. The guy in the boat next me says to me "I wish I still had a partner like that" in a smiling but somber tone. It kinda struck me deep, it reminded me not to take my little buddy for granted. I wouldn't give my buddy up for anything. She can be a pain in the ass sometimes but the good far out weighs the bad.

Every problem with your dogs listed is solvable, every dog owner has dealt with them to some degree. Just takes some effort and probably a little coin.

In my case one Papillion. One Siberian Cat, Two Tortoiseshell cats and one Domestic Shorthair cat.

I've made some adjustments to my world and my house to make life with pets easier.
Not having pets makes a house an empty shell. YMMV.

Cisco the Papillon is a well behaved non-yappy dog.  I got him from an abusive neglectful owner.
My world is greatly improved with Cisco being a part of it.
