We're running a turntable, receiver, and speakers older than I am, with a newer Sony CD player and Yamaha tape player.

I'm using the Kef 104/2 loudspeakers that I bought back in '85 for $3,750, and they still sound amazing being driven by the Carver M-1.0t amp I bought at the same time.  Since then I've been through a few pre-amps.

Turntables and tube amps provide the best sound, but don't try to explain it to anyone.  Save your breath.

Been wanting to upgrade a few pieces..   I really want a McIntosh 7200 amp

Hitachi SR2004 reciever (using power amp section)
NAD 7040PE reciever (using as preamp)
Yamaha DDX470 CD
JVC HR-D970U  VHS
Pioneer RT-909 open reel
Nakamichi 480 cassette
Klipsch Chorus II speakers

(also have audio connected from my PC for MP3/FLAC )

ETA.. The Nak, JVC and NAD were things I recovered from the junk bin at a shop I worked at..  restored all three for way under $100

Still running a Technics amp, tape deck and turntable I bought new in the FRG in 81.  Broke down and upgraded the orginal speakers (Bose 601's) to 901's back in 91 while overseas again.

I was using a set of Acoustic Research AR2AXs speakers that I bought in 1972 until recently when I blew out the tweeter.

Sansui G7000 - Sweet

I've got a G6000 that looks virtually identical to yours - found it at a thrift store for $60. Although it violates my Mandatary Blackout Sliderule Dial rule, it was just too purdy to resist...

Physically, they're bigger than the typical Marantz or Pioneer receiver of similar power - guess they needed extra room inside for all that "Pure Power"!

Still got my old Pioneer SX-636.  Works like a champ, no need to upgrade.

Oh please, forgive me!  I broke my mom's Marantz 2245 two weeks ago.  I fucked up one of the knobs.  I don't think I can replace it.  I broke the balance knob, now sound only comes from one speaker.  I'm planning on taking it apart and figuring out if I can put a rheostat on the thing or a resistor or something to just make it work again.  It sounds so much better than the JVC thing I replaced it with.  My mom couldn't tell the difference!

I broke it while trying to remove the face plate to fix the power button.

ETA: If anyone knows where one could purchase a new balance knob assembly for a 2245 (or similar model), feel free to PM me!

Currently, I am using a Kenwood KR-V126R a/v receiver.  Bought it in Germany in 1987.  It still sounds incredible, although the Dolby is the first version.  It has 2 outputs, but the signal is the same.

This one has the gen-u-ine leather covering on it.  They're just great radios, though!

We had one of those TV/turntable deals also.  It was Zenith - I can't remember if it had a radio.

The TV shit the bed, and it got moved to the garage, destined for the dump.

I was 16, had just bought my own car, and just bought a Rotel receiver and speakers - IIRC from Radio Shack - and ran out of $$ for the turntable.

Parents said "Go ahead," so I removed the turntable from that Zenith, and built a box for it, and figured out how to make it work (electricity).  That was in 1973.  I used that damn thing until the fall of 1976.

IIRC, the turntable arm's head looked like a snake - it had was white, and kinda shaped like a snake's head and had two black dots on either side of it - looked like snake eyes.

I'm not sure how this compares, but I think it's got to be close.  I've got two of these to refurbish in the near future for my stereophonic musical enjoyment:   1958ish - 1962ish Heathkit  AA-91 55 watt single channel tube amp.

That Magnavox doesn't have a TV in it.  Those doors on the front are fake!

The radio and turntable work great, though.  I need to find a needle for it, though.  The old one plumb wore out.

I got one of these, but most of the front panel controls are skrewed. From years of bad treatment by a family member who it was "lent" to,  just say no . I need to get around to fixing it up, it still sounds great.

Picky, picky.  When I post my results in 6 months I'll get 6 calls of dupe and IBTL's since it was already dicussed tonight.

I'm actually using this homebuilt tube powered creation, but its guitar equipment not Hi-Fi and only a few months old.  (I just have to get out of guitar mode.)

kent,
nice, very nice.
your AA-91 is from roughly the same timeframe as my Dyna ST35.  at the time, the ST35 set the standard for value-priced "audiophile" grade amplifiers.  the designers at Dyna took great pains to design and manufacture the ST35 output transformer -- the result of which is beautiful sound.
