America is becoming a class-based society.

Becoming?  And is that necessarily bad?  It's not like class mobility doesn't exist if you put in the effort.

Her "opportunity hoarding" doesn't limit socioeconomic mobility nearly as much as addiction to government subsidies, and destruction of individual rights in favor of collectivist slavery to government.

I was raised in poverty, put myself through school, worked a lot of shit jobs, created a career, paid my own bills, and controlled my own debt. Hoard opportunity so my kids don't have to work as hard as I did? Damned right I am. Your kids? You look out for them. Some random other kid out there? I don't care one way or another... their welfare isn't my business, and I wish you the best of luck, just don't make me pay for your shit.  You want me to give up opportunity for my kids in favor of yours? What the flying fuck? That doesn't even make sense.

I earned every dime I have, and I can do whatever I want with it. Frankly, I'd rather burn every dollar I have in the back yard than give it to a stranger because they think I somehow owe it to their freeloading ass.

If I hoard opportunity, it's because I CREATED that opportunity. I did so by providing value to others and getting compensated in return.

My success and my wife's success will strip their emotions raw and lay them out like exposed roaches with the lights on.

They cannot guilt us because we do not care. Cast any labels or names our way and we simply smile the smile that know that you are smarter, better looking and wildly successful. In short they cannot do shit.
We are armed, trained and ready to rock. We live happy lives and are extremely content in our success. In short, we win. They lose. They suck hind tit everyday, always and will continue to fail miserably because their whole life's premise is wrong. And I relish in their misery; its glorious to hear their petulant whining and moans. So much winning!

My household income is well above his threshold.  I can honestly say none of that is attributable to anything my parents did for me unless you count my Dad's 4 abusive alcohol laden marriages and my Mom's remarriage to a child molester (not me I was too old) that she later refused to leave because of "security".  The 4 years in the Navy, the 7 years of college, the 20 years of showing up to work everyday, the outsourcing, all of the bullshit that's me.

I would be a millionaire at this point if I had just been a little black.  No need to join the military for the GI bill and to be exempted from listing my parent income on the FAFSA until I was 23.    It would have been a free ride the entire way through.  No worries about being outsourced with 1500 people at a time regardless of performance, unless you are black and then you are IT HR gold.

So he is damned right there are two America's.  God help a family if they make just 100k and have more than a kid or two when it comes time to send them to college, they are looking at 200k for education alone right at the time they should be ramping up savings for retirement.

Fuck him and fuck them.

Not tired of "hoarding".

I understand that there can be really difficult circumstances but America GENERALLY remains the land of opportunity if you work hard and make good decisions.

I came from a broken family in a school district where 75% of kids were below poverty line and im a dirty ".01% er".

PS- the kids I knew who really tried to better themselves did great the shitbirds are now incarcerated.

Water is wet and the sky is blue.

Come on, of course upper middle class have the capabilities to bring up their kids so they have a good path for success. Does that mean all kids end up this way? Absolutely not.

This is a bullshit article. These families are typically creating the next-generation of tax-paying individuals for society. So you're saying we don't want that to pay for all of the social programs? That's cool.

That article's position is irrational.  So those who are successful for whatever reason should deliberately give their children less opportunities, lesser education, lesser experiences because...poor people?

Why would any rational, even halfway loving parent do such a thing to their children? Liberals love to put children on pedestals but now they want to punish children and deprive them of opportunities simply because their parents are wealthy?

I just had the displeasure of listening to a progressive British windbag on the radio named Richard V. Reeves.

"If you’re a top earner, helping your child succeed can mean hurting the chances of children with fewer privileges. Play the game inspired by the new book, Dream Hoarders, by Richard V. Reeves."

https://www.brookings.edu/interactives/are-you-a-dream-hoarder/

"America is becoming a class-based society.

It’s now conventional wisdom to focus on the excesses of the top 1% — especially the top 0.01% — and how the ultra-rich are hoarding income and wealth while incomes for most other Americans are stagnant. But the more important, and widening, gap in American society is between the upper middle class and everyone else.

Reeves defines the upper middle class as those whose incomes are in the top 20 percent of American society. Income isn’t the only way to measure a society, but in a market economy it is crucial because access to money generally determines who gets the best quality education, housing, health care, and other necessary goods and services.

As Reeves shows, the growing separation between the upper middle class and everyone else can be seen in family structure, neighborhoods, attitudes, and lifestyle. Those at the top of the income ladder are becoming more effective at passing on their status to their children, reducing overall social mobility. The result is a fracturing of American society along class lines, not just an economic divide. Upper-middle-class children become upper-middle-class adults.

These trends matter because the separation and perpetuation of the upper middle class corrode prospects for more progressive approaches to policy. Various forms of “opportunity hoarding” among the upper middle class make it harder for others to rise up to the top rung. Examples include zoning laws and schooling, occupational licensing, college application procedures, and the allocation of internships. Upper middle class opportunity hoarding, Reeves argues, results in a less competitive economy as well as a less open society.

Inequality is inevitable and can even be good, within limits. But Reeves argues that society can take effective action to reduce opportunity hoarding and thus promote broader opportunity. This fascinating book shows how American society has become the very class-defined society that earlier Americans rebelled against — and what can be done to restore a more equitable society."

My favorite line from the interview was "The upper middle class is obsessed with the idea of a meritocracy."

I grew up in a lower middle class/ poverty level household. Neither parent has more than a high school diploma and are both on disability now. I'm probably going to have to pay for their funeral expenses out of pocket when they die.

I have a B.A. and my own business. We're finally doing well enough that my wife is quitting her business so she can be at home with the kids. Which I'm sure is another unfair advantage they're going to inherit.

We are far from rich, but we are in the 6 figure range in a town with low cost of living. Nobody handed us shit. We both have worked our asses off our entire adult lives to give our kids a "better" upbringing than either of us had.

Leftists are so fucking insane. They insist on having some sort of "cause" to be part of, and the mental gymnastics they have to perform to create issues is mind boggling.
