[ARCHIVED THREAD] - ARIZONA REGULATOR dropped America’s FRT in EE - Q&A ask the Inventor/Manufacturer (Page 20 of 21)

Quoted: As much as a three position unit would seem desireable, the whole point of the Arizona Regulator is to have a drop in unit with no tools or mods. Really how hard is it to pull the rear takedown pin and pull it out? There are other products out there that have three positions but requires tools and time to install and remove. But the AZR is something you can pop out in five seconds and yeet elsewhere. I see some value in that. There's certainly some value in that, but I think more people want to set up a dedicated lower, and simulate an M16, than to drop it in gun after gun. When I want to shoot my Rare Breed with a heavy barrel 5.56, a 14.5 5.56, a 300 Blackout, or a 458 SOCOM, I don't move the trigger into that gun, I pop two pins and put a new upper on the lower which is set up with the trigger and an H2 buffer. |

But the AZR is something you can pop out in five seconds and yeet elsewhere. I see some value in that. It’s a question of utility. The current AZR works great to emulate a submachine gun or SAW with safe/FR functionality only. For general purpose application of a rifle caliber AR, which will be more practical in semi-auto mode most of the time, the 3-position selector is a lot more usable. |

Colt Commando upper with 11.5” DD barrel. Slight tap with gunsmith hammer to seat; very nicely machined. Trigger group is early 2000s Stag (Connecticut) by Schmid single-stage. H2 carbine length buffer. Griffin A2 QD can. No issues or malfunctions at all. Truly drop-in, plug & play. Love it - well done! |
|
I posted this in the FRT thread by mistake. JD is a freaking genius! I cut the disconnector per the instructions. Then I filed the lower lever until I could work the bolt with minimal effort. The first light trigger pull… BRRRRT!!! A 4 shot burst! This is a new PSA 11.5” pistol. Carbine gas and buffer spring. H3 buffer. YHM Kurz flash hider and Turbo K suppressor with Kurz adapter. I had fired one mag earlier to sight in the red dot. Attached File I fired 3 mags suppressed, and one mag without the suppressor. Mostly 3 round bursts. I let it rest between 30 round mags, but the gun and the Turbo K got HOT! 120 rounds with no failures. I was able to fire singles several times. I am very impressed with how easy this was. |
|
It really is pretty easy especially if you have either all mil-spec and buy the M2, or with an MBT and buy the one cut for that. Out of spec uppers can be sanded to fit with a sanding drum on a dremel and many are close enough you barely have to remove the anodizing. The simplicity and sturdiness of the design is a bonus. Two moving parts. No springs. |

Quoted: +1. As much as I'd like to find a place i can go and pick it up, a 3 position version would definitely make me buy a few. Being that your locations shows AZ I used to meet folks so they can pay cash when I had time Got busy past few months and stopped doing that Getting freed up a bit since my guys are trickling in to fill permanent staff positions here Working on a storefront location in AZ now That said hit my cell and I can work out meeting you in the east valley so you can do cash and carry if you want |

@01ZULU I've been working with mine a little trying to get it to work. AZR-15M2 - Milspec setup - used the disco provided. I cleared the back of the disconnector so that it sits inside the trigger tail. Have not touched the AZR surfaces. My problem is that I don't ever get the tight feeling when tapping on the trigger. When function testing, if I drop the bolt the trigger just acts like a normal semi auto trigger. I don't think the bottom cam on the AZR is long enough to engage my trigger. I tried it on two different setups with the same result. Any advise? |

Just a guess, that the M2 doesn't need you to modify the disconnector, the paddle is probably shorter than the version that you need to grind on. - Clint |

With the M2 for a MilSpec trigger, you should only have to install the parts and check the trigger is being forced to reset properly. You should NOT have to do any filing or fitting of any parts with an M2. I never bothered with any of the trigger tapping stuff with any of mine… they just dropped in and ran. |

M2 should work as-is or at most swap in the supplied disconnector. M2’s out of battery lever is set length to press on top of mil spec contour disconnector. Rack bolt and hold back and trigger should reset. Release bolt slowly and it should be fireable by trigger pressure as bolt goes into battery. |

Quoted: I got my AZR15-M2 in the mail today. Function checks great with 5.56 upper but my 9mm upper will not close with it installed. Looks like the internal weight on the 9mm bcg is interfering. This 9mm upper runs perfectly with endomags. Below is a pic of the bottom rear of the bcg. Can someone post a pic of the same area of a 9mm bcg that is working with their AZR FRT? I can't find the bcg that AZR recommends in stock. Edit: Is it feasible to remove the internal weight and just use it with a 10oz buffer and an extra power spring? https://www.ar15.com/media/mediaFiles/137193/IMG_1445-3585580.jpg 10oz buffer is good too. |

The weight is in the way I talk about that on the 9mm tech page paste 9mm Tech: For General Tech details see 5.56 Tech 9mm Configuration specifics are covered below. This is how we did it with what we had on hand. Every 9mm blow back setup is different. Upper brand should not make any difference as long as its machined to Colt upper specs which the majority of AR uppers are to Colt specs. Another brand bolt or buffer/spring should not matter as long as the bolt has the same or very similar bottom profile as a normal 5.56/.223 FA BCG and the buffer is heavy enough to eliminate bolt bounce. _______________________ _______________________ ARIZONA REGULATOR Setup in video running 9mm: We used the same standard 5.56 A2 rifle lower that we had been using for the 5.56 development Pulled the 5.56 Colt upper, buffer, and buffer spring. Pinned on a 16" Colt 9mm upper with a Foxtrot Mike Colt style mag BCG part # FMC-9BCG. Dropped in a Kaw Valley Precision 10 oz tungsten carbine buffer part # KVP-10oz and Kaw Valley Precision XP carbine buffer spring part # KVP-PCC-XP-Spring. Installed the proper length spacer configuration to take up the extra space in the rifle buffer tube to accommodate the shorter carbine buffer and get the bolt catch to work properly without having excess rearward travel when the bolt locks to the rear when the mag is empty. Ran a Mean Arms Endomag 9mm mag conversion kit with built in ejector in a PMAG 30 marked AR/M4 GEN M3 part # MAG557-MCT. _______________________ _______________________ Short barrel 9mm Pistol Upper Note: When running a short barrel 7.5 inches with a suppressor we had to go to a standard weight carbine buffer spring. 7.5" Yankee Hill Machine 9mm Upper Foxtrot Mike Colt Mags 9mm BCG Kaw Valley Precision 10 oz tungsten carbine buffer Standard carbine buffer tube Standard carbine buffer spring Bowers CAC9 Suppressor _______________________ _______________________ 9mm BCG Note: Ensure whichever std FA compatible BCG you use does not have an additional pinned in weight in the tail of it that extends forward past the trip release surface. Notably the Colt pinned in weight does exceed forward of the trip surface. When the pinned in weight exceeds forward it interferes with the upper cam and the receiver will not close. You can either mark the weight, unpin it, and relive a bit of material so it clears the upper cam. Or do like we did and use the Foxtrot Mike BCG that has a pinned weight that does not exceed forward of the trip surface. |

| I searched and MBT triggers in 9mm results are all over the place..some have worked, others have not....anybody have luck with a PSA hybrid BCG using the MBT? Or a standard RockRiver? I would rather not have to replace the BCG to get it to work with a MBT Regulator... |

Long time lurker just made an account here. Appreciate the endless information available here on this site. That said the Arizona Regulator is what brought me out of lurk status. They are simply amazing little pieces that are just ridiculously fun to shoot with. I have had some time to go through them with several different manufactures lowers and uppers. Lots of combo's with buffer weights, springs and triggers. 16" to 10.5" AR's that have all run flawlessly when the right parts are together. If you can change a car tire you can grasp what needs to be done here with them. Don't over think it just follow the directions and take your time by testing fitment and function and it will be very rewarding. Some details of what I have run so far that seems to work the best. Some combo's work better than others. Hiperfire EDTHG. I trim all disco's. The disco's in the EDTHG's are thin over the spring so use caution. There is enough meat left on it so far in every instance I have trimmed (3). Armaspec braided spring. KAW Valley H3 BW. This weight is ultra-reliable for function. Elftmann push button safety selector. Many hate the push button but with the thin barrel section it seems to operate better than a standard SS. Standard SS's work I just prefer the Elftmann. AR's I've tried: Centurian Arms Troy Industries PSA Aero Precision 9mm so far: Sig MPX Copperhead K which is an absolute bullet hose!! Link to my old newly "modded" YT. MPX FRT Aero 10.5 Troy 10.5 PSA BCM 10.5 Centurian Arms |

If you were able to get one of these designed for Mac, that opens up a lot possibilities. Lage (also from our Phoenix area) makes uppers to convert a Mac to different calibers. I bet your trigger and his uppers would fly off the shelves. You should get ahold of him (Richard) for a future project. Also, going to call your website phone number to see if we can meet up for a cash and carry in the SE valley. Love what you are doing for the community man. Keep it up! @01ZULU |

Love what you are doing for the community man. Keep it up! @01ZULU I don’t think people would actually want the Mac kits with the large uppers. They make sense when on a full auto registered receiver. The AR-R is great in an AR and the large is clunky for what it is. Now an UZI FRT. That sounds fun and doesn’t seem like it would be too hard. Fun thoughts. Time to go take my uzi apart. If 01Zulu wants to make one for a Mac. Then by all means. But I don’t think the use is there for it. It is for things like the MPX, MP5 clones, and maybe even AKVs. |

I don’t see the point you are making. There is a large enough demand for Lage to make uppers in other calibers for the limited supply of full auto registered MG Mac’s. If a FRT was made for semi auto Mac’s, I could see a huge demand for items that fit Masterpiece Arms and the like. I do agree with you on the UZI though. I also have one of those and would pick up a trigger for that ASAP. 80s goodness Attached File Attached File But I hope ZULU does something in 22 first. I would make getting that a priority over everything even if it is for something I didn’t have. |

If a FRT was made for semi auto Mac’s, I could see a huge demand for items that fit Masterpiece Arms and the like. I think the point is that folks buy Lage uppers because they fit the "cheap" machinegun. If full-auto M16s were the same price as Macs, people would just run AR uppers. With FRTs already existing for ARs, why bother bandaiding an upper onto a Mac - just get an AR upper and run that on an FRT'd AR lower. IOW Lage capitalized (good for him!) on giving cheap MGs the flexibility of the M16/AR but without that price differential there would be MUCH less demand (like near zero I'd bet). |

Would I also buy one for a Mac, an UZI, anything in 22, a PTR32, an AK, Saiga 12, Remington 1100, an Aug, a Hellion, an RDB…..Yes, one of each. Hell, I would get one for my Hipoint Carbine. Owning the design, ZULU has a huge market he can take advantage of. Even if he didn’t want to take on misc platforms, he could make $$$ licensing it out. |
