So's mine. It's a TNW that I Form 1ed into an SBR.

If I ever hit the lottery, though, I am going to get a transferrable full auto Suomi.

The most troubling aspect of that war is that the west did nothing to help Finns, they did not declare a war on the soviet Union. it was very clearly an attack on a sovereign country.

nor when the s.u. invaded poland in 1939, the eastern half of it.  WWII began in 1939 yet all the soviet textbooks say it began in 1941 when they were attacked.

Soviets were dropping bread to the starving Finns, so the Finns treated the heroic Soviets to some nice warm Molotov cocktails. That's what good neighbors do.

no, the real story goes, they were dropping bombs and called it bread, thus Finns called their devices cocktails.

Every time I see those numbers I cringe.

Where the hell did 400,000 Russians go missing?

The Soviets were still being issued their Summer uniforms during a very cold winter in Northern Europe, after a very wet summer.

They didn't have any supplies thinking they would be done by Stalin's birthday - December 21st.

Finland led a heroic resistance against the Soviet menace.

Absolutely.

Finns are no joke. What scares the hell out of most sane people, they do for fun.

This is from a movie about the later Continuation War, 1941-1944, but screw it, close enough:

Finnish Moisin-Nagant best Moisin-Nagant.  Too bad Finland can't get its land back from Russia.

Churchill wanted to send British Forces to Finland to assist them but had no way and the opposition party (Labour) in Parliament wanted not to support Finland.

The Winter War Movie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ELfMprEbrI

Famous story from the winter war; Stalin asked his General to report on their progress; " We have almost taken enough ground to bury our dead!"

No offense, but the M39 was not used in the Winter War.  It was used in the Continuation War.

The Soviet troops were actually better equipped and clothed for the harsh winter than their Finnish counterparts. What the Soviets lacked were tents and/or underground bunkers for sleeping and staying warm during a very very cold winter. They often slept around huge bonfires and were given daily portions of Vodka to keep warm (and to give courage no doubt).

Our boys had underground bunkers (called Korsu in Finnish) and/ or tents with a furnace to keep them warm. Many of the front line soldiers of the Finnish Army at the time fought in their civillian clothes with only an official cocade in their civillian hat, a snow camo suit and a leather belt whereas the Soviets had padded winter clothes and felt boots (very warm when dry).

man, I remember about 30 years ago watching a 20th Century with Mike Wallace program on the real History Channel, and they had a great program on the Winter War... was fascinating and awesome, and well done with amazing footage.

those programs were done in the early 60's-late 50's I believe... I've never been able to find it.... the entire series was top notch history..

Isn't Finland now run by leftist socialist government and being invaded by the multiculti migrant hordes now?
