So I have a few pairs of viewing glasses. I have it in mind to cut the lenses and tape them over a pair of cheap binoculars. Think I'd hurt myself viewing through that sort of setup?

I've stacked 2x shade 10 welding lenses together and have been using a spotting scope to look at it... I can still see

Was outside in the east valley of Phoenix, AZ with 70% totality at the peak and thought...meh.  Then remembered the pinhole idea to show the eclipse....ARFCOM hat to the rescue!

It starting to thunder here.

So if it rains during the eclipse, will we get a Rainbow In The Dark?

Same here, pretty cool. So I'm guessing at peak time with 80% here it should get fairly dark ?

Hardly. It will still be brighter than a cloudy day.

Around 25 minutes away from approximately 96% occlusion. The light outside is a bit weird.

99.2% here in Portland.  It got darker and the crescent shadows were awesome.  Glad to have my 4 year old experience it, even if not totality.

Looks like the traffic apocalypse is starting here now.  Entry was over multiple days, now everyone is leaving at once.

We got about 92% totality here in Spokane.  This was the best I could get my potato to focus at the time of totality....doesn't do it justice from what I actually saw, of course.

I made a viewer our of a cereal box.

Tiny slice taken out of the sun so far, with our 83% happening at 1442.

Pretty neat. But it's partly cloudy here.

Boulder (93.3% occlusion) had perfect atmospheric conditions:  no clouds in a blue sky.  I didn't feel like making the pilgrimage north a couple hours, so this was fine, and I got to play with my grandson for a while too.

I can't say it even felt like dusk -- maybe early dusk.  But I've done this before, and it was about as I expected, even to being surprised by how bright it remained

So with only 6.7% of the light getting to us, it was that bright.  Kinda shows how strong the lightfield is, that we live in.

And that makes the case for wearing sunglasses outside.
Fun fact:  Colorado has the highest level of eye cancer in the U.S.

tl;dr:
