So I have a few pairs of viewing glasses. I have it in mind to cut the lenses and tape them over a pair of cheap binoculars. Think I'd hurt myself viewing through that sort of setup?

My house is right on the line .

Was outside in the east valley of Phoenix, AZ with 70% totality at the peak and thought...meh. Then remembered the pinhole idea to show the eclipse....ARFCOM hat to the rescue!

It starting to thunder here.
So if it rains during the eclipse, will we get a Rainbow In The Dark? Dio - Rainbow In The Dark [HD] |

Around 25 minutes away from approximately 96% occlusion. The light outside is a bit weird.

I must have screwed up glasses. This is all I see

I see some people in the direct viewing area have clouds it's sunny here
|

Clouds thinned out enough for my daughter and I to get a good look several times, good enough!

99.2% here in Portland. It got darker and the crescent shadows were awesome. Glad to have my 4 year old experience it, even if not totality.
Looks like the traffic apocalypse is starting here now. Entry was over multiple days, now everyone is leaving at once. |
|
We got about 92% totality here in Spokane. This was the best I could get my potato to focus at the time of totality....doesn't do it justice from what I actually saw, of course.

I made a viewer our of a cereal box.
Tiny slice taken out of the sun so far, with our 83% happening at 1442. Pretty neat. But it's partly cloudy here. |

My comment on the NYT stream was not well received.
"Time to sacrifice some virgins and cut out the hearts of some Indians to get the sun back" |

Boulder (93.3% occlusion) had perfect atmospheric conditions: no clouds in a blue sky. I didn't feel like making the pilgrimage north a couple hours, so this was fine, and I got to play with my grandson for a while too.
I can't say it even felt like dusk -- maybe early dusk. But I've done this before, and it was about as I expected, even to being surprised by how bright it remained So with only 6.7% of the light getting to us, it was that bright. Kinda shows how strong the lightfield is, that we live in. And that makes the case for wearing sunglasses outside. Fun fact: Colorado has the highest level of eye cancer in the U.S. tl;dr: |
|
We had a skosh over 75% occlusion here in Ft Worth and it was noticeably dimmer and cooler outside. My dog looked confused.

Heavy cloud cover moving in just in time to ruin our max at 2:42.

Meh I just went ghetto and lined up a pair of binos over a sheet of paper since I'm off and my wife was working, but wanted to see. This was peak here
