My new AR15.com watch will serve as my "permit" although I am really not required to carry this permit.

For those who do not know, it has the 2nd Amendment on the case back. (my idea [:)])

Actually, I think if he asks you for your permit because he has seen you have one in the NICS system you would have to give it to him. (correct me if I'm wrong)

My point here was that I do not have to have a TX permit (US 2nd Amendment).  Therefore how will they know unless I tell them?

If you freely abide by the TX CCW laws then you are somewhat obligated to obey the rules set forth with the permit.  (Although this could be argued in your favor, since it is a "slanted" contract to begin with.)  Didn't you sign paperwork, take a class, etc?  You freely accepted, by contract, the terms of the TX CCW permit.

Its the law now in Michigan.  You must present your CCW during a traffic stop.  They also extended the CCW to 5 years.

If I understand things correctly in Virginia, it is your driver’s license, not car registration, that is flagged that you have a CCW.

Thus the LEO won’t know about it until he gets your license from you, takes it back to his cruiser, and runs it.

If he then returns to your vehicle and determines you’re packing and didn’t afford him the courtesy of being told up front – he may be a bit less friendly than he was before!!

Admittedly, LEO’s are probably a bit more relaxed along I-81 than they are here in NOVA. [:D]

Not much to tell really, this was about two months ago.  It wasn't an on the job encounter,  just one of those really weird guys you run into at gunshops.

Pretty much a carbon copy of the above post, among other things. Guy just would NOT shut up.

Insulted just about every long gun on the racks,  explained to everyone how his AK was so superior to any crappy AR or HK etc,  you know the type, I just wish he'd had a bath.

Finally, after fingering just about everything and insulting the whole shop, he left.

Saw him about two weeks ago on 183NB in a blue Escort wagon, no front LP and an INFOWARS.COM sticker on the rear window glass. Had a woman in the car.

Natez, he's WM, 25-28, br/br, hair just to the collar, 170, unshaven, blue long sleeve denim shirt.

Sounds exactly like the guy I was talking about. Stopped him for Speeding on the Interstate a couple years back.

The whole encounter started with him refusing to roll his window down. I asked him repeatedly to please roll the window down so I could speak with him, and for his DL and insurance. He replied that he didn't have to have a license and/or insurance, because those laws didn't apply to him.

He next handed me a stack of papers, and said he didn't have to talk to me, anyway, because I wasn't a police officer because I was not wearing a hat, and he said that he case law to prove it, but he was just chatting to be polite.

He also argued that he didn't need a DL, or insurance, because he wasn't operating a "motor vehicle." He was driving a "private conveyance" and traffic laws only apply to vehicle engaged in Interstate commerce, according to the Uniform Commerce Code, and he had the papers to prove it (so he thought).

He also stated that there was no way in hell that he could have been speeding (86/65 on radar, 81/65 paced when I caught up to him). He did have a point about that, seeing as how his car was such a POS. And old Blue Escort, if I remember correctly.

I waited for another unit before continuing this further, and retrieved a hat from my trunk. He made lots of furtive movements around the interior of the vehicle and was been dicking around with a pretty big screwdriver while he was seated in his vehicle. Definitely makes you hair stand up a bit.

When help showed up, I got him out (under his protests). Frisked him (under his protests, which were lengthy and came close to triggering chemical persuasion), and found that he was in fact carrying a legal knife and a box cutter. He was headed home from his stocking job at a north grocery store, in the vicinity of where you saw his car a while back.

He did have a valid Dl issued, but hadn't gotten the hard copy from DPS yet because he was just coming off a No Insurance suspension. I cited him for Speeding and No Insurance. He initially refused to sign the citations, but did after I explained what would happen if he didn't (night in jail), although would only sign them under "duress", which he wrote on the ticket ("Under Duress, All Rights Reserved, U.C.C."). The other officers thought I was too patient with him. The video was absolutely hilarious, and some of our Gang folks were using it in training classes.

He filed a bunch of bizarre motions with the court and requested several subpoenas for several people for several court dates. He then abruptly pled guilty and never paid the fines. Warrants are still active. He lives to the Northwest in another of the area suburbs, and works in Austin. Strangely, I have never seen him again, and he doesn't seem to drive through our area on the way home from work anymore. If he is the same guy, call our Dispatch for a locals check on him. If he is the same guy, our folks will meet you somewhere and take him off your hands.

After the fact (and after I had some more training on this) I recognized that he was one of those common law/sovereign citizen types. Any encounter with these guys is potentially very dangerous for LE.

BTW, this guy would have never even qualified for a CHL; he had numerous Burglary convictions and some other fairly serious offenses in his past. I miss Patrol. Should be promoting out of the office and going back to streets in the next couple of months. Can't wait.

Tennessee issues a Carry Permit, not concealed carry. If you want to, you can carry your weapon exposed. I dont advise it but you can.

It's not politically correct in TN, just like here in VA .[:)]  By the way DYNAMIC, welcome to the board.

It's a wise idea and in AZ it is ( I believe ) the law.

Yes it is wise to advise you are a CCP holder and it should be done.
If I pulled someone from a vehicle and patted them down and they had a firearm without telling me they had a CCP or was LEO their ass would be on the ground eating pavement.
Officers should not have to guess what permit you have or who the hell you are or what the purpose of you having a weapon on your possession.
Their job is to protect and serve the public and community.
Then go home to their families every night.
I would not take the chance of someone telling me UH I have a CCP or I am an LEO. If I found the firearm first without knowledge of their Permits or Reasoning, they could explain anything the wish after I had then cuffed.

How true Nwatson, and overall most thinks it's the nice thing to do where not mandatory by law.
