Mac nailed it (as usual).

The AWB shows that going for a bigger "community" with firearms owners isn't going to get what they want.

The .50 is now banned in California and you WILL see other states jump on the "California leads the nation" HORSESHIT and have 50 bans written up within a few months at most.

Beware people.  California gun-owners just took ANOTHER one up the ass.  Please LEARN from this.  Please do whatever you can to stop the INSANITY that will be knocking on your door very, very soon

The problem for us is there was no way to stop the insanity. And that will continue to be the case as long as RINOs and democrats run the show. I have no hope for this state in regard to firearms. And with demographics the way they are today, Republicans will never control this state again. I am all for fighting, but this state is a lost cause.

It does seem to allow new registration.  Of course so would having a .22 version.

The Ammunition Tax is dead.  It was stripped out of legislation but the fingerprint stuff is still there for handgun ammo.  .....even you "duckhunters" have to do a little dance for your handgun ammo.  None of this non-sense matters to out of state ammo dealers who ship to CA as best I can figure.

The "thumbprint for ammo" thing will probably cause Wal-Mart to shitcan their sales of it in the state.  I can't see them bending over that far.  Couple that with the fact that gun sales are still suspended it's another HUGE victory for the fucktards in Sacramento that are making this place look more like the good ol' CCCP every day.

From his letter found here

It is the Barrett position that we choose not to support in anyway state or local governments who are against the US Constitution and the safety and security of this nation. If California were to ban the sale of the Barrett .50 cal rifle we will stop the sale and service of all Barrett products to all State Law Enforcement agencies of the state of California immediately and ask all small arms manufactures to consider similar action. Re-classify the .50 cal rifle and you align yourself and the State of California as being part of the very terrorists who are attempting to destroy this great nation of ours.

And also from another of his letters

I will not sell, nor service, my rifles to those seeking to infringe upon the Constitution and the crystal clear rights it affords individual to own firearms.

Edited to add 2nd quote and to say I wish I had the $$ to buy one of Mr Barrett's fine rifles and support his business.

the way I read it, the fucktards have defined very clearly the cartridge and said the rifle that was specifically designed for this cartridged.......so change any of the parameters of this cartridge, and not call the upper you just built or got a .50 BMG, and it does not fit the description of the law.

short term way around the lunacy..... for instance seat the bullet or file off the end 1/100th and it no longer fits the definition of this assinine law. the rifle is a little more difficult, but where there is a will there is a way........ and any one who lives under the stars and stripes of our flag is affected by this....make no mistake, just because "you cant afford" this platform, it still opens the never ending revolving door of registration and confiscation of the platforms you can afford....and may already have......it is that bad.

(26) As used in this section, a .50 BMG cartridge means a
cartridge that is designed and intended to be fired from a center fire
rifle and that meets the following criteria:
(A) It has an overall length of 5.54 inches from the base to the
tip of the bullet.
(B) The bullet diameter for the cartridge is from .510 to, and
including, .511 inch.
(C) The case base diameter for the cartridge is from .800 inch
to, and including, .804 inch.
(D) The cartridge case length is 3.910 inches.
(E) It is a centerfire cartridge of .50 caliber or .50 BMG.
(27) As used in this section, ‘‘.50 BMG rifle’’ has the same
meaning as set forth in Section 12278.

I hate to say it but between the socialists and the illegals (and their supporters in the form of MEChA and the Aztlan-ers) the state is fucked.

Grayout was our "Lurch" execept he got caught as a fucktard AFTER he was elected the second time, outright lying about the state deficit by BILLIONS only to get elected and then saying "Oops, my bad" AFTER he got back in.

I'm 46.  I was here when Reagan was Governor.  Those times will most likely never return.  This state will continue to slide into the abyss.  If Arnold had not run we would have ended up with "BustaMEChA" in charge and then all hell WOULD have broken loose.  Any semblance of restraint on the part of the illegals and their supporters would have vanished overnight.  The only way to have stopped it would have been the Feds choking off the purse strings.

Somone earlier in the thread said "flypaper".  I frankly think that is what is needed.  Since so damn many lunatics in the nation seem to think that California has all the answers to all the problems we face, let's send them here.  Hell, the place already has checkpoints set up on all the major highways into the place, we just need to make sure that OR, NV and AZ set up ones ON THE WAY OUT to keep the nutwads inside the asylum.

I apoligize in advance to all the California people here willing to fight.  I've lived most of my life in this state but never became politically aware until after 9/11.  I just don't think we can win this one.  Trying to swing this state to the right in the coming decades is going to be impossible.  Too many democrats, leftists, socialists, soccer mommies, envirowackos, illegals, hippies and just plain sheep with their heads firmly implanted in their asses.  Did you see that link I posted a few days ago? (www.dailynews.com/Stories/0,1413,200~20954~2388909,00.html).  Over half the people in L.A. are functionally illiterate and these are the same people that keep Democrats in power here.  They can hardly read or write and are living in one of the most expensive places in the country.  These people are a Democrats wet dream.  Millions of voters that will ALWAYS want the State to take care of them because they can't even begin to do it themselves.

Sorry to be so "doom and gloom" but this place is just a couple of steps away from The Death Spiral.  We stand a better chance digging in and holding the line elsewhere.  Trying to stay here and fight is like starting the Pacific Campaign in WWII by attacking Tokyo on December 8.

rayra & G-Rated: There is no winners in this debate on the gun issue anyways. This is the classic, stuck between a rock and a hard spot.

The 50cal folks are partially repsonsible for this fiasco. Way back 10 years ago, I discuss this BS with members of the So. Calif. 50 Cal Club, they poo-poo'd the idea that "their" gun was an "assualt weapon" shoved me out the door. Well, I was right, with just a few changes here and there using Cali-fornia's AWB laws,  and volia! Their guns are banned and they don't own it anymore.

You guys are going to be so screwed when 'someone"figures out that you can mount a .50 cal BMG upper to your one round / pump / blocked 10 round / fixed 10 round / nutered AR15's.

SEC. 7.  Section 12278 is added to the Penal Code, to read:
12278.  (a) As used in this chapter, a ".50 BMG rifle" means a center fire rifle that can fire a .50
BMG cartridge and is not already an assault weapon pursuant to Section 12276, 12276.1, or
12276.5, or a machinegun, as defined in Section 12200.
