[ARCHIVED THREAD] - $300 AR thread for Spring! (Page 3 of 23)

I will look at the boxes in my safe tonight. I bought 4 of them. Just hit my googles. Noreen is the brand. Special was around 6 months ago IIRC. Brownells has them for $40 right now. They were also selling them recently for $40 with a $20 gift card. |

Do they use a standard buffer/spring too? The buffer & spring are standard carbine length. Only the old Mk 1 used a rifle buffer & spring. I don't know if they are shipping the CMMG LPK. It might be an LPK minus the FCG, as they have a lot of fancy triggers in the shop, including the CMC AK drop in trigger. If I have any downtime @ work tomorrow, I'll text the owner and find out for you. |

...you should notch the safety before installing it, or it will lock in your FCS forever. What do you mean by notching the safety? |
|
Quoted: I would get one if I could pick one up. But by the time I pay shipping and transfer it would be the same as going to my lgs and getting a 45.00 Anderson 5x$20 + free shipping = $100 + transfer fees. Tell me your LGS doesn't charge you $25/serial number when you're transferring 5x lowers. |
|
Quoted: this is like the AR equivalent of a prison shank lol.
|
| I need to get back to figuring out how to bond those together. |
|
Quoted: Would you mind? I'm really, really tempted to get 5 of them.
What do you mean by notching the safety? B/c of the fixed pistol grip, the safety detent & spring install from the top of the receiver. Ergo, once installed, there's no way to remove the safety unless you have notched the detent track so that you can pop the safety free @ the 45 degree throw mark. I have a lower that has the FCS permanently installed, b/c I learned that trick AFTER I installed the safety. That may be noted in the installation video someone posted above, but I've not yet watched it. |

From AIM? I remember seeing them for $33.99 but I haven't followed that closely. Those are also 6061. When guns are kept in the safe, placed gently in padded cases, transported to range and have a few rounds put through it every 4 months I hardly think it matters whether it's some high strength polymer or 6061 if you're not going to bother with forged or billet 7075. Not like the lower sees are really stresses. Quoted:

How exactly was it made clear that it was "simple criminal behavior all along"? An accusatory document from the government that was never challenged in court because it was too expensive vs just buying new property? The owner making a plea to the one charge that would have been hardest to argue against with minimal consequences vs facing dozens of charges to refute while exhausting his financial resources and putting his family through another couple years of legal hell? Do you trust that a jury would believe innocence or just think "guns are scary, he must have done something"? Regulatory mistakes were made and bad judgment exercised. What Cav Arms deserved was simply losing its license to manufacture firearms. I don't think you understand how the criminal justice system really works. And most people won't unless they experience it first hand. So when the ATF found out their whale turned out to be a minnow, they combed through everything they could find, and busted the owner on something completely unrelated to the raid. That's sop with the letter agencies - raid based on one pretense, get unrelated convictions by combing through seized records and interviews. That's what they are doing to Manafort now, and Scooter Libby back then, etc. Pulled over for a broken taillight, and they call for a drug dog that "alerts" based on nothing, you lose the car. Was the owner of CavArms a criminal? Per the judicial system, he is. Is he a bad man? No idea. But I'm inclined to believe that accusations of "He knew it all along!" are overblown. I don't believe the ATF raided them because they thought there were 4473 violations - if they had, it wouldn't have taken 2 years to get to a plea deal. I think they went in, didn't find what they were hoping, and began working through everything they could in order to save face. |

The 15-ers are fucking shining in this thread not just this post either!"Says the guy from Washington" ![]() laugh all you like but there is whole state outside of the I-5 corridor that still has farms, cuts trees, and catches seafood for a living.
Oh and I have been through Missoula, Big Fork, White Fish and a few other spots and I can say from experience your cancer is growing... ...lets get back on topic; tell about the first time you were touched in the bad place with a Cav type lower. That is what this tread is about! |
|
@Backbencher
I still have not done fuckall with the trigger fixture but if I can call in and get six on order tomorrow I will set aside two for you to give away as you see fit. You run the contest I will ship them to the ffl of choice anywhere in the US (where legal). If these are the original tooling they have enough meat to be cut for M3 grease gun mags for the PCC people who dont want a G21/Kriss abortion |

That said, after 40 years of shooting this platform, I have owned a couple of the plastic fantastic's and they don't hold up, but don't hold it against me, I don't own glock's either. When I can buy aluminum lowers for $29.99 There is no reason to buy a plastic for $20 bucks and if that offends you, then tough shit, get over it, we all have an opinion. By the way, at least the People in WA pay their rent on time, more than I can say for some of the people in MT!

I am doing the same. Some time before Tulsa, I'll swing by and pay cash. @ $20, they're cheap enough to give away - they're cheaper than Flat Spot lowers that I give to my welding friends. I'm gonna be there with one of my friends. Let me know if you want to meet up or something. |

Good news is that is used a carbine buffer and the buffer channel doesn't extend all the way to the rear of the stock. Thus allowing some length to be cut off without effecting the operation. http://jerkingthetrigger.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SUB_6_With_a_Twist.jpg Quoted:

Unless I'm mistaken, these include a stock, buffer tube, etc. So more than a $10 difference. I'd give one a try if they had an "Entry Stock" length. I just don't like the 13" fixed LOP on an AR15. http://jerkingthetrigger.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/SUB_6_With_a_Twist.jpg |

Good lowers but you would have to be a Pre-2008'er to have seen some of the threads. I still have a Cav-Aid lower somewhere. Also if I remember correctly back then this was the way to get the lightest AR possible at the time. I've got a Cav Arms SEBR tucked somewhere back in the safe. Can't say these are my favorite lowers but a $20 a pop, I picked up a few to put away for a rainy day. |

Most folks here know what they are getting and accept the trade offs. But I've never seen one, let alone entire runs, at various times, out of spec and unusable. I can't say that about $29 lowers. |

Attached File Eh so they're iffy, every rifle ain't a warstick, they look cool, they're light and you can build them cheap. Winner! |
|
Quoted: Thanks for the info. I will not order any!
What is the normal (non-sale) price? |
|
I ordered 2 around 1030 CST. The woman couldn't have been nicer. She said at that time they had quite a few left.
I've been watching InRangeTV's What Would Stoner Do series and it's built off of one of these so I might just try to build something similar on one of these. Thanks OP. You're a swell guy! |

So the owner sent me a video this morning of him tapping out a standard safety w/ a mallet and punch. So apparently it can be done w/o notching the safety and I just haven't used a big enough hammer.
Of course, the last time I used a hammer on one of these I was trying to install the LRBHO roll pin, and snapped the boss off clean b/c I suck at installing roll pins. That's how I got acquainted with GWACS $35 warranty.

I remove safety selectors all the time in aluminum AR's by pushing in from the right side and rotating the selector past the fire position and then pushing them out the left side. Don't know why it wouldn't work on the plastic lowers. |
