Gentlemen, I am definitely not an elr expert by any stretch of the imagination. But at this most recent ELR comp something strange happened and I would love to hear your thoughts. At this competition there were two couples who were competing. The men did everything for the women. They built the firing position. They loaded each round. They adjusted the elevation and windage. They did everything except pull the trigger for their wives. They also went significantly over time. Like way over. I think it is great to get our spouses out and shooting with us. If these women were shooting for fun. The unfortunate thing is they were scored for points. That means they took first and second place. That bumped my friend out of 3rd and me out of 4th. My thoughts are that in a competition the competitors should be responsible for building their position and executing the shots from start to finish. No one should ever touch a firearm or ammunition except the competitor once the time starts. What are your thoughts? |

I've shot a lot of PRS, no ELR though, so I won't comment on position building or dialing dope. But, going over time should definitely disqualify you from scoring. If you want to shoot for fun to say you did it, that's great! But claiming a win in a competition if you took double the time limit is shenanigans. |
Overkill is underrated.
| I've seen similar stuff in other competitions but it's always been with new shooters and they were never competitive let alone taking top spots (all non ELR I have no experience with that). I'd send an email to the match director and lay it out very politely and ask if that's a normal situation. It's definitely not ideal behavior. There need to be a point where the ladies stand on their own for everyone's sake including their own. |

Thanks guys. I did find the match rules and they specify “It is desired to bring new shooters into the game. The match director has discretion as to how much assistance the new shooters may receive.” So, if this was their first match I get it. But before I lay my money down for the next match I am going to ask the match director if the ladies will be held to the same standards as the rest of us since they are no longer first time shooters. |
