I use the SLR dimple tool to dimple my barrel so the gas block aligns itself.

This is why I prefer dimpled barrels/set screw gas blocks vs. Clamp on style.

https://slrrifleworks.com/750-dimpling-jig/

The set screw goes in the gas port...

The opposite end has a screw with a hollowed out center that allows drilling to dimple.

End result is dimples that interface with your gas block that is exactly matched up with your gas port.

If you're in the Rocky Mount area I'll be glad to let you borrow mine or help you out.

Neat tool.

Looks like a great option when I can't dimple! Thanks for sharing.

Go to Home Depot and get a dowel rod that fits through the hole for the gas tube.

Use the dowel to align the gas block opening.

Place 2 stacked business cards between it and the shelf cut of the barrel and gently but firmly press the gas block to the rear till it pinches  them.

Secure into place so the dowel is still aligned.

Remove the dowel and cards, then continue the build

This is literally the way SOCOM armorers do it.
