Ok, so I have a box of .308 bullets that I had bought from Midway a while back.

marked 7.62x51, 130gr OTM...

does anyone know what these were used for originally? Are they any good for anything in particular?

TIA,

RSC

.300 Blackout, Open Tip Match (OTM)?

Also useful for other .30 cal cartridges.

Without any other information, and not being familiar with what they sold you other than 130 grains and OTM...

Anything under 150 grains is usually running fast and in my experience has been intended for shorter range pest control or short range target work.

If it is a flat base bullet, which at that weight most (but not all) of them are, it can also be fairly accurate.

Any other information or velocity data with them? Is the tip of the bullet open like a MatchKing? The Sierra 135 Matchkings are a boat tail design, but they are 135 not 130.

Hornady makes a led tip varmint bullet at 130 that I know of. Speer also makes a 130 varminter, it has a distinct tip.

I don't think the 7.62x51 part would include .300 BO

I believe that is designated at 7.62x35 in some circumstances.

What it was designed for I don't know but it would probably make a good varmint bullet.

I'll have to look later, but I think I downloaded a Mk 319 spec sheet.

I am going to load them as 300 BO, have heard and read they perform very well in that aspect. I may try some for the .308 as well someday.

ok, so you've helped determine what they are, now... what would be the best use? I only have one box.... I can load 300blk or .308

I'm no pro at this, but my thought was always that at 130gr, would make an excellent BO round. I'll look for that article, maybe the ballistics would indicate otherwise.
