Local shop got one in for $395 that he claims appears unfired. It’s Chinese and it’s missing the bayonet.

This isn’t the one that accepts AK mags, it’s just the shorter model.

Did any of them actually take AK mags in original condition???

I don't claim to know much on SKS, but I though they all came with that trapdoor mag that was not detachable without removing some screws, rivets or or something...

20-30 years ago, I had a few friends that had several of them, but I was never really into them, so I did not pay too much attention...

The SKS-D and M both accepted AK mags.

I think most of them do not have a bayonet (I'd say all of them, but I'm not totally sure about that).  I had one a few years ago that I sold for $350 and I've regretted it, so I've been looking for one.  Based on what I'm seeing, I think $395 is a decent price for it, especially if not heavily used - $375 and it's a great buy, in my opinion.

I would buy it right now for that price. They're not getting any cheaper. Bayonets are easy to find.

Seeing them go for 450.00 at the shows

I take it that you mean one like this:

I paid $325.00 a couple of years back in a FTF deal for it.

One sold recently at my LGS for $550.00.

I guess you know the "paratrooper" is a fantasy rifle, they were never built to be issued, they are just altered standard length SKSs that were cut down to be sold commercially.

That said if you wanted to shorten a issue length SKS to "paratrooper" length and had to pay a Smith to do it goodness knows what it would cost.

Here's mine.  $109 back in the day and a 1000 round case of Chicom ammo for $69 to go with it.

From some of the auctions I've seen, I would say that price is actually pretty good for a Norinco Paratrooper.

Just keep in mind that the "Paratrooper" SKS bayonet is shorter than the standard spike.

ETA-  most of these came in sans bayonet due to '89 Import Ban compliance.

That's a great price considering what SKS's are going for now

I bought mine long enough ago, that I don't remember what I paid.  $400 seems like a pretty good deal based on current prices.

Mine didn't come with a bayonet, but I cut and ground a standard spike to fit.  That is always an option if you decide you need one.
