Not sure exactly what you’ve been hearing, but I have not heard anything to indicate that this is the case.
My guess, a number of factors are contributing to what you’re hearing:
1) Many dealers who used to get the ATPIAL-C from EOTech are now listing it as “discontinued,” as EOTech is no longer able to sell them, since they are no longer a part of L3Harris, and the ATPIAL-C (like the BNVD, GPNVG, etc.) is and always has been an Insight/L-3/L3Harris product.
However, the ATPIAL-C is very much still in production, and while no longer the newest, flashiest product on the market, they are still a strong seller.
2) As the previous poster alluded to, there have been some price increases from almost all laser manufacturers over the course of the past year.
To elaborate, as lingering supply issues related to COVID and other world events have begun shaking out, among the results has been a significant increase in the cost of laser diodes and other components critical to the manufacture of LAMs.
Not only has this lead to multiple price increases, but it has also led to both increased lead times and reduced production capacity, and in some cases, the “culling” of poorly selling products from product lines, in order to focus on and ensure capacity for “mainstay” products.
Meanwhile, while I cannot say much, I am aware of more than one active development project in the area of commercially available lasers, though they may take some time to come to fruition. However, again, while I am not sure of the exact things that you are seeing, I can see how some of the signs might lead to a misreading of chicken bones.
More to the point, civilians LAMs from Steiner and L3 are very much still available through us, and we currently have DBAL-A3s in-stock, and IIRC the lead time for ATPIAL-Cs is currently around the November timeframe.
