Where did a standard hops oil be good or would you recommend something that's a little bit thinner for a 22 semi-auto action?

Just a good basic gun oil... even a light motor oil.

I usually mix up a little kroil with a little mobil one I had left.. works great and is cheap.

I use Cherry Balmz Rimfire Remedy. Stays where you put it and works excellent.

With 22...its more about the ammo than lube to make it run right.  Crap ammo is going to give you issues no matter how "slick" the action is.

Regular maintenance is the key. The blow back action is gonna dump a lot of powder residue into the action. You don’t want a lot of excess lube in there to attract all of that & let it build up. A very light coat of oil on the bolt is all that’s necessary. What you use isn’t important as long as you clean the action on a regular basis.

We had good luck with Remington dry lube teflon spray  its a suspension of Teflon in a light wax . We did a charity MG shoot and ran 16000 rds thru 3 ruger 10-22 open bolts in a  one day without any issues.  Because its a dry suspension it doesn’t collect the dirt as bad

I've used 3n1 oil (light oil) for 50 years or so.

I've also used some Mobil 1 the last few years.

No issues with either one.

The post, above, about ammo is really important.  Some guns like cheap ammo just fine.  Some guns choke on it and are picky about what ammo they will run well and shoot well.  Only way to know is to buy different brands/bullet types and try them in your new .22.

I am a lazy sort so for most of my guns I just use Breakfree CLP and am pretty happy with the results .

Exceptions to the CLP are railed guns like 1911 I use gun grease on the rails . Same grease for Garrand.

Something like a Glock or S&W M&P just get CLP.

My 10/22s for the most part don't get oil . Anything wet seems to attract too much of that grey crud that blowbacks seem to produce.

When I get a 10/22 that starts to hang up I will break it down , clean everything and just use a tiny bit of CLP mostly as rust prevention. If the newly cleaned gun is dragging in function I will use silicone spray or some other type of dry lube.

Pretty much any 22LR ammo comes with a wax or oil covering and this will lube the action as you shoot . Any additional oil will tend to cause the blow back crud to build up and eventually cause issues . Seriously part of the solution is to shoot the gun often .

Silicone spray is also good for cleaning out magazines , never use any wet oil on magazines

I use Mercury Outboard fQuicksilver 2 cycle racing oil for any gun above 40F... it dissipates carbon... for cold weather INOX MX3

I use silicone spray on mags and a lot of household stuff, never tried it on a gun action.

Like you, I clean and use a little CLP on 10/22, shooting suppressed makes even more crud.
ARs I've been using left over Mobil 1 ATF.

I've been trying out Eezox lately because it's a dry film. So far, so good. Buy I do also clean my gun every time I shoot it, even if it's just a few mags.

Works very well. Also great for storage. Since it is a dry lube it stays put and doesn't attract powder residue. Somebody did a test of many lubes and preservatives a few years ago and One Shot was in the top 3 for both slickness and long term storage.

CLP or motor oil.

It's not a big deal to add some more oil every 250rds for me.

I'm going to try out cherry balmz when it gets in within the next few days. Of course it will be a bit before I actually get to shoot enough to form a reasonable review. The thread in GD shows great promise with the rimfire remedy.

I buy one of these every time I'm in O'Reilley's parts store. Lord knows Lucas knows oil. Since it's synthetic, it won't gum up with age.

Worst thing to lube a gun with. It will gum up with age & is a water-based product.

CLP of your favorite flavor (I use EEZOX)

IME they slick up the metal making cleanup WAY easier for blowbacks in particular.  Never had a problem with EEZOX gumming up, even if you leave parts dripping it'll stay thin and problem-free.

Another vote for one shot. Works great on 22lr semi autos since it does not attract the powder residue like liquid oils do. Plus it stays put and does not run off/ drain off like oils do.
I have actually switched to using it on all my guns.

Ran a little over 50rds mostly suppressed through my TCR today. Freshly cleaned and lubed with Rimfire Remedy. That stuff is slick!

I could absolutely feel a difference in the speed of the bolt, and the feel hand cycling it was much smoother. It doesn’t seem to have bonded with the fouling too much.

Granted, this was only 50 shots, so that’s not telling much. Maybe next weekend I’ll blast off a couple hundred and see how it holds up. Normally I’d add some CLP every couple hundred, or a shot of ballistol, whatever is handy.

I’m trying to find a reason to shit on the Cherry Balmz stuff as it seems like a much overpriced gimmick snake oil lube, but at least the rimfire remedy seems nice so far. I’m not really impressed with the Black Rifle Balm, the AR I put it on seems kind of dry after less than a box. I’m expecting that to lock up by about 200rds.

I use TW25 spray that dries to leave a very thin film of dry lube.  I have used Hornady one shot in the past with similar results.  No wet lube on my .22's.

I always used generic CLP on everything, I started shooting suppressed and my mk4 would start choking at around 300-350 rounds. I’m currently at over 800 suppressed rounds though my mk4 using cherry balmz rimfire remedy. It’s really nasty but keeps chugging along.

Dry lube on all of my rimfires.  Some of them are bastards to get clean, and the dry lube doesn't crud up as fast.  Especially when you're running a can.

I've been using Breakfree CLP for the last 20 years or so on all my center fire and rimfire guns.
