We found this in our shop and we have no idea what it fits. Some sort of cannon breach, maybe a signal cannon?

My first thought when I looked at it was some sort of kiln gun, but it's probably wrong.

Looks like the firing mechanism off the breech of a cannon I saw - 50mm or so - imported from Israel and apparently of British make.

I can't bring the name to mind.

I posted it on a FB gunsmith group too and aside from the smart ass answers, the best bet was a 5in/.51 caliber cannon on some WW1 and WW2 ships. I can't find a close up pic showing it though.

Still no idea what it fits.

The "DGP" makes me think German.....and a T in a circle is normally a Steyr mark........but the proofs/font look French

That's an excuse to build the rest of a canon

isn't the flaming bomb an US ordnance mark?

How does it work?  It looks like you pull out of the "T" handle and twist to unlock it. It also looks like an air connection for firing a piston into a firing pin. If so my guess is its a kiln gun breach.

BTW that calculator is nasty.

The air fitting thing is solid, not an air or grease fitting. I need to take a video of it opening at some point.

And the calculator is nasty bit it works so we keep it...

For those who have never heard of a kiln gun, these are 12 gages on steroids meant to blast clinker buildup in a huge kiln.

I have no idea what it is, but I want it.

It looks like a 1 bore punt gun breech to me.
After you build it into one.
