American Reloading got me again.

FINALLY got around to grabbing some 6.5C brass since I re-barreled a rifle a while back and had something like 50 pieces of brass...

If I ever dive into a new cartridge again, I'm going to account for the firearm plus a 1/2 lifetime supply of brass/bullets in the initial purchase.

I got the part for my RCBS .223 sizing die in the mail, so I put the die together, adjusted it, and sized about 140 cases I had prepped.  I’m tumbling the lube off of them now.

Purchased another 60 pounds of 223 brass....... also, texted my buddy with a Dillon setup for case prep. Cuz, i will soon have 90 pounds of clean brass to prep. Yikes.

I got 250+ .223 cases lubed for sizing tomorrow.  I'm still using home-brew lube, but instead of dumping the cases in a big bag and being really sparse with how much lube I spray in, I'm doing something simpler.

I get the cases all standing mouth up* in a cardboard tray, and spray the mouths with lube.  Then I knock them all over and spray them while they're lying down.  I'm not being a miser with the lube here, but I'm not bathing them in it either.  I did my last batch this way, and they sized more smoothly.  It was enough of an improvement that I'm going to keep using this technique until I run into a problem.  Not enough lube was a problem with .308 brass; a little more lube with the .223 won't hurt.

*I put the cases base down in styrofoam 9mm ammo trays, then put my cardboard tray over them.  I flip the whole thing, and then take away the styrofoam trays. Viola!  A bunch of brass standing mouth up.

Loaded some 45acp 200gr SWC’s for testing today.  5.1gr of HP-38 with Berry plated bullets.  Plunk tested and cycled perfectly in my Gold Cup.  Much different recoil impulse than 230gr ball or the 255gr SWC’s I’ve been shooting.  Honestly kinda a powder puff load.  Still locks the slide back with a 17lb flatwire spring.  Now I can load a LOT more…

Also, picked up a Dillon 7.62x39 conversion kit for my 550.  My dad has a set of never used Lee dies that I’ll use.  I know steel case is cheaper but I enjoy reloading so why not.

In the past 5 days I've....

Ordered 2lbs of 1680
Ordered 2lbs of FFFg black powder (does loading each cylinder individually with powder, ball and cap count as "reloading" ?)
Deprimed a bunch of once fired 223 cases
Used an intertial bullet puller to undo 50 of the 78 bad 44 mag loads I was given

Drove myself absolutely insane. I swore when I bought H1000 last, that I bought 2 8 pounders, to go with the 1 I had already. Opened the cupboard today and could only find 2. Not 3 that I was expecting. After tearing apart my room, garage, and anyplace else I could think to look. I finally checked my receipts, I only ordered 1, to go with the 1 I had. So my count of 2 is right.

Now I'm cleaning and will start working on a supplies spreadsheet.

Got some warranty parts exchanged at Dillon this week.

I wet tumbled some 9mm brass 2 weeks ago. I left the brass spread out on towels under the ac vent for a few hours. I then collected the brass into a container. I emptied the container later, to sort the brass and it was all still pretty damp, getting stuff wet. I had been looking on and off for a used dehydrator, but have not found one. Was at Cabelas the other day and spotted the Frankford Arsenal brass dryer, didn't buy it then, but decided that when I went back, if it was still there I would buy it. Sure enough it was there. Rewashed the 9mm brass in soapy water and am now drying it. Have the week off, so I'll see if I can get those carbine rounds load up.

It's my b-day today. I got up early and went to the public range and farmed for brass. Got about 400 casings or so of .223 and about a hundred 9mm and a few odds and ends. Went home and started cleaning and sorting the brass while I loaded up 50 rounds of .223. Now I'm sipping some 4Roses and relaxing.

I only had a little time today, so instead of diving into something I'd have to stop in the middle, I inspected and cleaned my Lyman caliper.

I made sure the track was clean, verified that the screws holding the dial to the body were not loose, and verified repeatable zero.

I can see that, if you push, you can "spring" the mechanism, but when you release that pressure, it normalizes back to a real reading.  I'm impressed.

If I have to replace this unit, I'll definitely look at a higher end dial caliper, but for now the only thing I'm going to do is treat my current caliper nicely.

I finished trimming my sized .223 brass.  I have just over 1,300 cases ready to load now.

I may set up to size and trim all of the 300 Blackout brass I have sitting around next.  Or just dive into sizing my butt load of LC 7.62 brass…. Decisions, decisions!

pulled some 45ACP rejects detected from the last wobble and plunk test

The 550B was still set up for 45ACP and I have 1000 200 gr SWC's laying around so made some dummy rounds and they all functioned fine in 4 different 45 autos.

Then did some test loads from 4.1 to 4.7 of Red Dot.  Probably shoot 'em next week

So far, I picked up brass from the back yard, resized and trimmed some 300 bo, running the tumbler, and sorted some brass.

But the most of the day has been spent building an inside the house reloading bench to supplement the main reloading bench. For when it's cold, or too hot.

Loaded and test fired some 77gr SMK’s yesterday.  23.5gr of H4895 with WSR primers.  Just a hint of flattened primers and ejector swipes.  S&B brass.  Today I loaded up the same pills with 24.5gr of AA2520.  Ran out of time to shoot as I had too many other things on my plate.  Also, got slightly lucky yesterday at the range and scrounged some 45 brass to go with the 223 I shot.  Decapped all of that plus 150 pieces of 38 special and tossed it all in the FART.  I’ll run it later as it’s not full enough yet,

ETA - 2520 meters like water in my Dillon.  Very consistent.

unreloaded 260 rds of 380 ACP (20 mags x 13 each), had a squib  bullet stuck in barrel, went "pffffft" instead of bang.  In the old days this would mean end of the range session for that gun until I got home and tapped out the bullet.

Nowadays I grab my plastic tipped hammer and Brownell's squib rod set and pound it out and soldier on

I saved the projo and will use it as an undesirable way to slug my barrel
