In case you haven't seen it, Hodgdon is blowing out Western Powder reloading manuals on their site for only $5.  I had one delivered last week and it looks to be a quality manual for just the price of shipping.

Reloading manual $5

Was somewhat excited. Went to order an their website is a clusterfu$*.

Couldn't place the order.

Guess I'll just continue using what I have

Odd.  I didn't find it out of the ordinary when I ordered.

ETA:  Now that I try it again it won't work for the manual, but I try to add powder to my cart and checkout and it works.  I suspect they may have sold out of the manual.

Wouldn’t let me check out either.

I’ll try again after while.

Could not order from website either.  Tried calling during their business hours.  Cannot get through to a person.  Attempted to leave a message, but the "mailbox is full".

I ordered mine around July 20 before I went on vacation.  It was waiting for me when I returned earlier this week.  I told a fellow I work with about it on Tuesday and he ordered successfully at that time.

I added a lb of powder to my cart, then the manual, then went to the cart and removed the powder.  The manual stayed in the cart.  Hoops but it worked.

A quick look at the first few pages shows it is essentially the same manual. (I didn't take the time to compare the data.)  The $5 one is actually copyrighted 2017 while the PDF is copyrighted 2020.  The $5 one is better for smashing bugs and doesn't require batteries.

I printed the 8.0 version out (several copies) in preparation for Hodgdon to "improve" it- ie. delete the 5.56 (62,350 psi) data and keep the 223 (55,000 psi) stuff...

About 10 years ago I printed out pages of their load data before they improved it back then, when it still did a spreadsheet-type listing and glad I did. It would take a book 2 feet thick to print using the newer format.

My printouts don't need batteries either.

Thanks for the heads up.

I just downloaded the .pdf and printed it.   Has that changed in the last year or so?

Some of the older Western load guides have more bullets and loads, especially for 223 and 5.56, but some of those exact bullets aren't really available on the US market right now.

The additional load data for them might be useful with similar bullets from other companies though.

There used to be 62 grain MIL FMJ loads and 62 grain MIL M855 loads.

The 62 grain MIL FMJ (lead core) bullet was made in the Philippines by Armscor and loaded slightly shorter.

The 62 grain MIL M855 load is still listed in later guides.

MIL is supposed to stand for military.

It has 19 calhoon stuff.   The latest big hornady manual doesn't.

The hornady manual seems more comprehensive overall tho.

Get both, I guess.
