I found a AGM NVG 40, New housing. MX10160 L3 Gen 3 tubes (Surplus tubed from Kosher in 2022). I thought I read once these tubes were 20+ years old. Any concerns?

20 YEAR old tubes? Yikes.
I get looking for low cost deals, but you also have to be careful of "stepping over a dollar to pick up a dime." |

MX10160 just refers to the tube type. It is an "auto-gain" tube meaning it does not have manual gain control. The MX11769 features manual gain control. It is possible to reformat current production L3 10160s to be 11769 however. If it is a "surplus" tube then it's possible it's old/older but the only way to have an idea is if the contract info is still on the tube itself. Something to consider is with a monocular I highly recommend having manual gain control. Although manual gain isn't necessary IMHO with a binocular, I consider it necessary with a monocular.
When the image to your aided is too bright it can basically "turn off" your un-aided eye. By lowering the brightness your brain will use your unaided vision and you can merge the images together into one from both eyes. You just have to find the right gain level based on the ambient light. |

that's a fair price. If those are autogated tubes, it is an even better deal. I wouldnt really expect either tube to die anytime soon unless you abuse them. That housing isn't horrible, but it is heavy. Also, the optics are not mil spec, so you'll get some lens flares, but I've owned that same housing, and used it without issue.
