Last time I saw this pistol was 25 years ago when I was a young teen. It was around the time the movie "Saving Private Ryan" had come out and my family was together at my great aunt and uncle's place. "Uncle Jimmy" as we called him had served as a combat engineer in the Army in Germany in 1945 when he was 19. I seem to recall we were talking about the movie and how realistic it was, and he said "boy, do you want to see a REAL Nazi Luger, because I got one." He told a story about taking it straight out of the holster of a surrendering German officer and putting it in his own pocket. I asked him if we could shoot it, and he said they don't make bullets for these anymore (he was not really a gun guy). He passed away in 2004.

Now all these years later I realize that "real Nazi Luger" he showed me was actually a P38, but it's still cool! It's an all original and matching Spreewerke (including the mag) and is in really good shape. He always kept this Nazi armband with it that he also picked up in Germany. I was able to snag it off a family member of his that had inherited it, and was going to sell it. Got it for a great price too!

I truly love the p38 and those grips. I've been trying to justify one for awhile.

Great looking pistol!

My FIL has a P-38, but I’m pretty sure it’s a post-war model.

Too bad they don’t make ammo for it anymore….would probably be neat to shoot.

Oh it’s going to get shot alright. I just bought a pair of repro grips for it because the originals can crack from what I read.

They're 9mm parabellum, right?

I hear that's actually pretty popular and easily available..!

I honestly don’t think he ever looked into what it actually was. It was just a war trophy to him and he definitely never shot it while he owned it, but he clearly took care of it. He also had a Luftwaffe officer’s cap that was really cool that he had on a taxidermy boar’s head on the wall in his den. I have no idea what happened to that but it was always a conversation piece.

I think that's what it is called in Europe.

In the states, it's 9mm luger, so yeah they still make a little of that.

Great pistol OP. I have 3, though 2 are RC. My dad just gave me his Walther with red grips this Summer. I have a Mauder one, and also a post war P38.

That looks like it's in great condition, especially for a wartime use pistol.

Do not use any hot ammo in it.  Standard 115gr. fmj only.  Hot ammo will get you a cracked slide.

They can crack taking them off, too!  Be careful and don't pry anywhere.

Please upgrade the original springs with a set from Wolff.

Those slides can crack.

There are some genuinely nice pistols in your pics ....but those engraved guns are abominations.

They are a bit over the top IMHO, expecially the Deaths head marked P08.
