So my good friend was a 30year USMC veteran( 1945-1975) who recently passed away. He joined the Corps at the age of 15 ( lied about his age) and fought on Okinawa and later served in the Japanese/China Civil War in 1945-1946. He made the Inchon landing at the onset of Korea and fought through Seoul and the Chosin Reservoir where he was wounded. John made it through every enlisted rank E1-E9 and was commissioned a warrant officer and a True “ Gunner “ ( Bursting Bomb). He served 2 tours in Vietnam where he received a Silver Star and a battlefield commission and rose to the rank of Major before retiring in 1975.

He had this rifle build for him by the RTE prior to his retirement. I l’ll have to do some research on it to see if the receiver is a true C model or what the rifle was prior to its rebuild. Regardless … I’m honored to have this rifle being left to me in his will.

The camo HBT shirt.  Is it a P42 or a P44?  Either way color me jelly!

Holy shit, you have the exposed turrets as well.

Shoot that M1C at Camp Perry in the Vintage Sniper Rifle Match.

My son had one of the retired Army guys on the Virginia Rifle Team build his M1D for Camp Perry on my Harrington and Richardson Korean War-era rifle.

You need to write that story down on paper somewhere.

You need to preserve those artifacts.  Maybe store them in his foot locker, make a trunk or better still, make display case.

I wish I knew the exact year it was built by the RTE… I believe it was in the early to mid 70s as he was getting near the end of his service and said he had it built for retirement.  He loved this rifle and was very proud of the build.

What an amazing man and a true bad ass !!!!!

Wow that is an amazing rifle!   There is not too much I see online I would love to own, but this would be at the top of the list.  :)

Btw I have a M1C scope and mount that is serialized to about a 100 digits off this rifle.

What Bigbore said, above.  Rifle is an M1C 1952 also known as a MC-1.  OP you have a big responsibility, i.e., preserving that Marine's history.
