I hadn't noticed this on the market until recently. Unfortunately, it is not the value that regularly occurs with the brand and there are several domestic production rounds that beat it in price point.

HARD PASS. After seeing multiple kabooms due to double charges in Tula .308 ammo, 50 BMG would be Russian roulette. Pun intended.

I'm all about some cheaper ammo for my Barrett. But yeah no. It's one thing to kaboom an Ar which is easily fixed and parts are stupid cheap. Whole other matter to kaboom a Barrett.

Just looked it up.

Why on God's green Earth would you use a Berdan primer?

They make 50 Cal primers for goodness sakes?

At least make the case reloadable and give us some reason to buy your crappy Russian ammo!

How long before the " My 82A1 short strokes for some reason. Used to run great" topics.

No Thanks.
I'm certain my Steyr 50 HS was 'proof tested' at the factory!

I have two boxes of it at the house. If I’m off on Sunday maybe I’ll go dump a mag of it.

And in a brass case, for more than AE/Federal XM33 no less...

Well I went out and shot 10 rounds through my M82a1. I didn’t notice any functional difference between the Tula, Federal, and PMC bronze. The casings looked fine after firing, with no splits or deformation seen.  The Tula is Berdan primed as indicated on the box.

If it were cheap enough, that'd be one thing... but decent brass, decent ammo, more than XM33, and Berdan primed? It just doesn't make sense. I wish they'd stop using Berdan primers for the 12.7x108mm Tula ammo, too, but what choice do I really have for that caliber? It's a shame.

Those factories are tooled for berdan and they've never had a reason to switch. Part of the reason why they make cheap ammo.

Although Berdan has been the European standard, I have seen plenty of .223, 40 S&W, and 45 ACP steel cased ammo that was Boxer primed.

The Russians are capable of making Boxer cases, and they make Boxer primers for export, so why not combine the two to make Boxer primed brass that is easily reloadable and make the brass more valuable?

As to the Tube review, that guy is cracked if he thinks $5/round is a good price for berdan primed ball .50.  Loaded with 243 grains of what I wonder?  It better be damn slow.

No shit! I just bought 400 rounds of Argentine AP for $800 and it came with a brand new BOHICA Arms upper!

Literally bought the ammo and he threw in the upper!

I have the Mk III. Hasn’t been fired in years but I understand that’s the safer version.

Fair point; they can and do make boxer primers/ammo.

However, I would bet Tula manufactures this ammo in the same plant where they make 12.7mm DShK ammunition for the military & export.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/DShK

That ammo likely uses the same Berdan primer.  Manufacturing a new boxer primer in 50 would have cost them more Rubles.

Unfortunately, they won't see much market demand for 50 at the prices they are asking.

It does, sadly. I have a pile of once-fired.

Funny enough, the 12.7x99mm/.50BMG is the exact same price.

@bigman46

Would it be possible to pull the berdan primer and measure the primer pocket diameter and depth?

I'm curious if these cases could have the berdan anvil drilled out and made suitable for boxer priming.

Yep I’ll pull one for you. It might be awhile though, I’m back working 7-14s.

What, you don't have a case of Berdan .50BMG primers? ...honestly, are the proper size primers even sold in the USA? I would like to eventually reload the 12.7x108mm cases I have, and I assume they're the same primer (but might not be!) as the Tula .50BMG.

Newp.  Can't seem to even find a supplier in the US.

I just sent e-mails to TulAmmo, Wolf, Grafs, Midway, and some others... we'll see what turns up. Perhaps they're available for import and simply not offered openly due to vanishingly small demand. At any rate, it can't hurt to ask.

Funny enough one of the dead links my searches turned up was for Graf's.

Mine, too. The cached pages on the Wayback Machine were enough to find various manufacturers had offered different sizes of Berdan primer in the USA previously.

I'm not optimistic about finding Berdan primers suitable for x99 or x108mm, but I suppose machining a sleeve and drilling a center hole for a Boxer primer isn't out of the question. I really want to be able to reload 12.7x108mm, as surplus has all but disappeared and it's far too expensive to shoot factory ammo only.
