This is mostly a personal preference thing but I thought I would get some input from the great and the wise.
I started this build to reduce the weight of my suppressed carbine auto setup but I can't help thinking I may be better off going with a 13.9"barrel (as opposed to the 12.5" i had planned) so I can have a mid length gas system. Considering all the tinkering I have done over the years to slow down my auto carbine, and the other benefits of mid gas I am really tempted. The thing that holds me back putting a suppressor out there another 1.4". My current 12.5 is already plenty heavy with a suppressor all the way out there. |

There are 12.5 barrels with mid length gas systems FYI. I think the Sage Dynamics/Rosco new K9 barrel is.

What’s the purpose of the build? Just to be light weight? If you want light do a A1/A2 upper with 11.5 carbine barrel.
I say pick the configuration you like and tweak from there. |

I definitely can feel the smoothness comparing the same configuration in mid vs carbine...so a mid 12.5 vs a carbine 12.5.
My favorite setup with a Brevis Ultra II w/ a mid gas.    |

BRT CHF CL 12.5 has an extended gas system, longer than carbine, shorter than mid length. And it’s veeeeery smooth shooting.

Advise from a woman, so take that for what its worth.... if longer is an option, never settle for shorter.

Thanks to the excellent assistance provided by you gents I bought a 12.5" with a proprietary midish gas system.

Mid is definitely what I would pick over carbine for a softer recoil.
