Craps getting bonkers, I want nods now.
First place I looked was TNVC because they seem like good people around here, but the lead time was off putting. Are the gen 3 Trybe pvs14s at optics planet worth the $2700 or should I be looking elsewhere? For context I am a white collar dude non mil non leo, just want wizard eyes to see what's happening around the farm at night just in case. https://www.opticsplanet.com/trybe-optics-gen2-and-gen3-pvs-14-night-vision-monocular.html?_iv_code=TRO-NV-TRDPVS14-TRYBEPVS14G I also need a helmet and mount. Willing to go up to 6k-7k on monocular and helmet can maybe go more if I take a little out of rainy day money. |

View Quote Thanks for consideration, the demand for our NV as of late has been surreal since early last year. The daily amount of demand has not stopped. L3 especially with their tubes cannot get anyone (even with our massive PO's in the system) and cannot produce enough. This mainly due to Mil contract tubes which ours come from has had a massive uptick in Mil orders. Then add the 10 months of massive commerical orders equals a perfect back order storm. Feel free to PM me here, be glad to talk NODS and educate the best we can even though you may be ordering somewhere else. We're always very happy to educate first and foremost to get you the tools for your NV tool box. |

The Trybe PVS14 use XLS tubes just like everyone else and are actually in stock and OP offers free returns and they pay for the return shipping, so take that for what you will.
If you chat with with them you can usually get a pretty good discount as well, usually around $500-$1000. YMMV though! |

Other vendors here on ARF to check out that may have NV items in stock: N-Vision optics, JRHEnterprises, Night Goggles, Ultimate night vision. Also some offer an ARF discount.

If you need support the NV specialist has the equipment and know-how to properly take care of you. |

Now I need a helmet. |

I purchased a Trybe gen 3 XLS white phosphor tube the other day in a private sale. Works great. Paid under $3k. Zero blems. 0.3 EBI. But not the greatest FOM.
Works amazing, couldn’t be happier. |

Good choice on NVision. I am very happy with them and you will have a well build 14 asap.
Not to bum anyone out waiting on trybe tubes, but "hand select" grade tubes I have seen posted had mediocre specs eg snr 26 with multiple zone 2 spots to top it off. Pretty poor stuff for the price. Their wp xls tubes are a rip off in particular.... The good return policy makes it low risk so I wouldn't fret. You can always send it back. |

New question about helmets now.
I am currently leaning towards the ops core bump helmets as I can find them in stock in a few places and they appear to be well regarded. I know they don't stop bullets. In other helmets I have looked at the mounting socket on the front of the helmet appears to be an added accessory, in the case of the ops core bump helmet it appears it is just a slot/socket molded into the front of the helmet. My questions is this. Do I need any additional hardware to correctly secure a night vision mount into the ops core helmet face/slot/socket/thing? For example if I purchase a wilcox mount such as the wilcox G24, will it interface directly with the bump helmet and the PVS-14 j arm or do I need to purchase some kind of adapter or plate to secure the mount to the ops core bump helmet? |

Quoted: Your Wilcox will work fine with the ops core. View Quote Thanks! I grabbed an ops core and counter weight from TNVC. Is my assumption that the J arm that comes with the pvs14 will attach directly to the wilcox g24 correct as well? I believe the g24 is the last piece I need to purchase to get going for now. |

If I am not mistaken, the Wilcox G24 is a dovetail mount.
Your PVS14 is bayonet style. You need a dovetail adapter like the Norotos Double dovetail or a dovetail J-arm. I heard that some Norotos and Wilcox does not interface well. |

If you actually ask trybe they are very up front they are Elbit xls tubes just like everyone else is selling. The difference is they are actually in stock and ship the next day with free 2 day shipping. Also they offer free returns and even pay for the return shipping. Their gen2 devices use xx1441.
|
|
[#20]
Be nice if they offered more than a two year warranty on the Trybe units. Guess the limit on the warranty is part of the cost savings.

[#21]
Yes, Trybe uses Elbit tubes, the monoculars are not made by, or assembled by Elbit.
Pretty nice specs there for an XLS tube. |

I bought the N-Vision ITT “alpha” pvs 14 for 3,750 A few months ago and I probably have about 20 hours on it now and it has been great. Has one little fleck in it but that’s it. It’s not a defect per se by any means. My only complaint is it did not come with a spec sheet so I really have no idea what I got. When I try to resell it to fund BNVDs, I’ll have no way of assuring the customer it meets the minimum specs.
Edit: sorry, this was in reply to the OP Who bought the same PVS14. I did not quote it correctly. |

I bought a hand selected green phosphor from OP and it took 6 days to arrive from the day I ordered it. I bridged it with an L3 Harris that I bought from TNVC. The Trybe unit has zero defects and I am very happy with it. If I were looking to get a PVS14 at this stage what with the lead times as they are, I wouldn’t hesitate to go with the Trybe. I took a chance and it worked out perfectly.
